gold rings

Don,

That's because there are other alloys mixed in with gold. By the way, what was your VDI readout on those 18k gold rings? 18k seems pretty soft compared to 14k and 10k rings. Don't hold me to this, but there are more alloys mixed into the 14k and 10k gold rings.

Bigger gold rings no matter the karat will read in the red bar. The bars match the group of VDI that you are reading. Rob

Just got back from a short vacation, I will give the gram weight and readout of 18k gold rings SAT. Don Tyler

I took my V3 right into a Jewelry store and tested rings and necklaces.
The higher the gold content in a ring makes it sound off higher on the vdi scale from what I found. ..
18K generally reads in the 50's on up. I have a very small 18K ring that reads 54 vdi and red. I have a much larger mens ring that is 10K and it reads like a Nickel and in the blue?
12K and 10K no matter the size ring up low and blue.
I suppose it's the alloys that make the difference
This is just my tests.

Yes, the Karat and size. I have found a large men's 10K that read 63 in the ground and 54 out. Gold rings will read anywhere from 6 to 63 as far as I know for sure.
