Looks like someone paid too much for that ring. I have a large band I found with all plating gone and it's stamped 18k.

I have a big nugget ring stamped 14k but unfortunately it is also brass, probably someone trying to scam people out of their hard earned money. Anyway it's another ring for the collection.
