Gold Bugs???

Well-known member
Ok this fisher gold bug intro has literally been BUGGING me.I have for a month now been trying to decide wich to purchase, its still rather confusing.I brought this subject up in an earlier thread when i questioned about the gold bug from cabbelas being the same as one purchased from fisher direct. Here is an email fisher sent my dealer. The gold bug special edition will be shipping in the next few weeks[4/22/10].We originally advertised the intro of this unit as the gold bug pro 'introductory special' but it will be thegold bug 'special addition' in order to avoid confusion with the gold bug pro@$699 available in a few months. We have made a number of changes from the original unit to the'special edition' most notably the audio. The gold bug pro is targeted for release in july. The'special edition' will be identicalin terms of featuers to thegold bug pro,but there will be some additional software and performance changes and revisions taking place in the 'pro'.When the gold bug pro is released the 'special edition'will no longer be available.Guess i will order the pro, still makes me wonder how the guys outwest got theres already?Or are they actually the new ones? Any comments or suggestions?

....so now why should anyone buy the new gold bug SE when they are going to make more improvements apparently and release a Pro. These people at fisher are as shifty as the current Obama administration. They say alot without ever actually saying anything you can wrap your head around.
Lets cut the bull with these morons, if you are going to make changes...what exactly are they? Why wait and release another unit 3 months later. Why have 3 different versions of the same machine. Agian they never EVER actually list the EXACT differences. Not like..lets say a Minelab Xterra 30,50 and 70 where the differences are easily seen in the borchure on details on a website.
Oh no...again it is shifty little "changes" that are never fully explained.....and they never will explain them.
Well I was going to get a new Gold Bug....but now I can't do that. Why?.......because apparently the Pro will have performance changes.....oh but it will be exactly like the SE as far as features.
GEES...these SOB' s should run for congress.
Why did I get sucked back into their stuff again...I shoulda remebered the pain and suffering with the initial T2 and F75 releases.

I know thats what has me spinng in all directions, kinda like the f75ltd was it really limitted? I will purchase the gold bug,but if there is a change right after that,it may very well be my last fisher product

Pull their head out of their butts for once it would be a breath of fresh air for them., but they won't.
If you could look at the differences before hand and make an informed choice it would all be fine. Agian like the Xterra or say the Prizm line...you can clearly see the differences in features beforehand and decide...well i need those features but...maybe not these ones....so...this model will work fine. Right.?
Oh no not with The Fish.
Plus...why is it they pre release a machine and then....AND THEN..before it even hits the market they are already shooting it down with prerealsing info on an improved version...yet.,.....the first one hasn't even hit the shelves. Then...ohhh gess...then there is the whole Cabelas line. this is a Fisher marketing fiasco that takes a complete idiot to think up. They sell their Fisher branded name to Cabelas...and then...they say that the Cabelas line is not going to be as good as the dealers line of the same model. That is not me making it up....this is from Fisher. They are always saying ...well there will be improvements to the "regular" dealer version. They did this with the F70...the F-5 and the Gold Bug atleast. I mean seriously ......buttheads...it has your name on it. What marketing neanderthal would allow such a contradiction in branding. So..what...you make inferior crap for Cabelas...or is it a ploy.
Sadly you can never trust anything from them. People need to wait 6 months after the new detector is out before buying anything again.

Scott if you don't mind I want to put you on the spot about your version GB.
If you have had a the chance to detect over some trashy area and compare
it to the Omega.
Even if you don't have any great detecting sites for relic/coin, what is your
gut feeling about the Omega vs GB.
Small coil on both and large coil on both.
If you had rather, send me a PM.
Haha, throw me a bone, I am having a hard enough time trying to
decide between these two without the mix of the other 2 GBs that
may or may not be any differences in.

Most likely that's the reason why the BS about "changes", & "performance". All the right buzz words, but what it comes down to is $150. price increase. That way it doesn't take away sales from the Tek. G2 that has the same design.

R.

Yes the Teknetics G2 is being targeted for june/july wonder if they will change those too........

So, question is, does a guy just buy the special addition that is currently being sold at Cabelos or is the cabelos a peice of junk? Or, will it do its job as advertised. Anyone work for fisher on this site that can shed some light on this confusing issue?

No, it isn't junk, look down this forum at Scott's posts.
I was hoping I could coerce a little more info from Scott so I can
make a decision between the Cabelas version and an Omega.
I would buy from a dealer but they don't have them in stock
and still might but I won't wait till July or whenever it is coming out.
It is strange about the GB because it has been known
about for a while now yet no field testers or those who work
for FT has posted anything about it.
So where are the field testers or others that could fill us in?

The first ones manufactured went to Cabellas.

Scott had a couple of them & reported back here on there performance. They had a good report card.

No other field testers that I am aware of.

The next batch of the Gold Bugs are due in to the distributors any day now. I should have some in stock, end of next week ???

Mr. Bill

Mr.Bill,'The next batch' are you reffering to the Gold Bug pro?

The next batch I am referring to is the production run for the dealers, the Gold Bug Special Edition.

The release date for the Gold Bug "Pro" isn't scheduled until the first part of July, and I certainly wouldn't want to hang on waiting. They didn't say what year July. Fishers on time delivery dates haven't been very accurate.

I certainly have no plans of waiting till July 20??. The season is half over up here by then. grrrr

Dwayne2010

Then get the Gold Bug Speical Edition. Thats due out next week. Save yourself $150. over the "Pro". Nothing will chaange in the Pro except the price.

Mr.Bill

there will be some additional software and performance changes and revisions taking place in the 'pro' So Mr Bill you dont think fisher is going to make these changes with the pro?,and charge 150 bucks more just for S&G???

All I'm going to say is we'll have to wait & see. It wouldn't be the first time I was wrong. Dam just ask my wife.

Thanks for the reply.ROFLMAO.......

I have no problems with the cabelas version of the Gold Bug. Thought it was a great machine. Fisher says the new version has audio changes. probably just to handle hotrocks and even then it may just be SAT or Retune changes in the software. For any relic hunters it would make no difference.
Like I said many times..I tested tha Cabelas next to my LTD in both Boost mode and DE mode and the Gold Bug performed the same as the LTD in Boost.
As soon as Bill gets the new versions in next week i hope to try one and let everyone know any differences but....don't expect anything truly different. Unlike the Cabelas versions of the F5 and F70 that I had that WERE crap...the Gold Bug was near perfect to me.
My personal opinion of all this is....typical First texas BS to justify a higher price in July. Add some new features that are not neded and jam $150.00 down your throats.
My personal view...buy the crap out of this first release and let the $150.00 more expensive Pro sit on the shelves. If the Gold Bug being released now is the same as the Cabelas in performance than it is almost equal to an LTD in Boost mode. WHat more do you think is coming from the PRO. Maybe an extra tone....o.k...fine..maybe a few minor changes but from a performance end I doubt anything REAL.
Buy the SE and let Fisher sit on the PRo's....unless they prove the extra cost is justified...and they won't. Unless they include two coils..well that would be fine...but if it comes with just the 5'er...screw them.
scott

...and they both have the same processor and are very close in perfomrance.
The Gold Bug is alot like an F75 in trash and so on. I would say it is closer to that in performance than it is to the F5....ie the way it reacts, the way it handles trash etc. It is another very fast recovery machine. Awesome with the 5" coil. ID locks on WAY better than the F75 does and is very accurate in All Metal ID too I thought.
But you only have 1 or 2 tones.....but you also have alot of ID range in the iron area...a ton actually...even more than a T2.
I expect the Gold Bug to be the next hot relic machine for those who need only 2 tones, want the depth of an LTD, the expanded iron range of the T2, but the price of an F5. So you pay for an F5, get the depth of the LTD, and the coils from the Ohmega. Shoot...what else is there.
I think a great relic/coin combo. The new Gold Bug and an F5 or an Ohmega. That way you have a deep 2 tone relic unit with expanded iron ID.....and you can swap over to the other and have a great 4 tone ID machine for parks and such. JMHO
