Sorry to hear of your problems, Amberjack, Maybe you could try cleaning the battery terminal contacts with a soft pencil eraser, if any oxidation has built up there. If your machine still needs to be sent back for repairs, the following 2 links should be useful for you:

I'm outside the US like you, and it will be a hassle to send it back if/when my GB Pro needs repairs as well. Never done that before, but it looks like there's a few hoops to jump thru. Gotta get a Return Authorization Number from Fisher first. As their 1-800 number probably is unavailable to international callers, try e-mailing them instead. There's also the matter of how to get the cost of postage and insurance to Fisher.
You may want to contact your local Customs Department for the proper terminology to use in the declaration form (should be something like "RETURNING TO MANUFACTURER FOR REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY"). Hopefully when Fisher returns the repaired machine to you, they'll have the proper terminology on the declaration forms so you won't be liable for any more import duties.
