Rich... You should get a free off road pass from the Ridgecrest BLM office. With the pass you can access
all of the area within the pass limits. Not sll of the ground is claimed by the varous clubs and individuals as some
is public ground or even within some sort of easement. Question: do you have a book
"Three hours to gold from southern California?"

They are not charging yet on BLM land (used to be public) but if they make you get permits
then later they can add a fee for processing. In the National Forest around Los Angeles they have
an Adventure Pass for $5 a day or $30 a year. You can drive through for free, but if you stop
for any reason, you have to have a pass for "Recreating". There used to be something in the
Constitution or Declaration of Independence about "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness."
as being inalienable rights. Now they want us to pay for them.

Actually the adventure passis a real joke.. It has been fought in court a few times successfully. But the guy had stopped to use a bathroom which is not recreation, and the judge agreed.
Problem these are ways the [arks system has tried to increase their funds....problem for them was that the government reduced their funds by the amount they made from the passes...great planning.....they lost on increasing their funds , and now it cost the public to use public land.

Actually Jim, I found a campground that will take an adventure pass instead of $7 a night. The pass is $30/year.
Also if you have a valid claim that you are working, it is not recreation, it is work. The group PLP (Public Lands
for the People) makes that claim, don't know if it has been before a judge yet.
One big problem is that if you hang it from your rearview mirror they have to look inside to see it. Then they
get a chance to look inside the vehicle.
Basically, all bad.
