Gold Bug and finding coins

It's finds coins and the best part just look where the bottlecaps come in at . Love the finds.

If you want to find gold then don't use discrimination, if you want to find coins use decimation. Silver is one of the highest electrical conductors in nature so it is easily singled out with a metal detector, it has an almost unique ferrous value too. On the other hand the conductivities and ferrous values of gold are among trash like items such as pull-tabs, nickels and foil, and so many others it is impossible to ID.

I can understand how a good beeperist like ANT could make good use of the GB2 by knowing his machine and intently listening to any change in sound that would certainly indicate a target. After reading and doing some more research, I'm leaning toward a multipurpose GB rather than an old original GB. I may or may not get to some gold country and if I buy an old GB and don't, I would be stuck here in NY with a gold detector with no disc capabilities and not much gold to find. So, I think a newer GB makes better sense. A GB2 may be good here in NY as I have seen some small pickers found by some prospectors in our GPAA Chapter; but they are small and few and far between. I'd rather have what the man who designs metal detectors for a living recommends as a good all around coinshooting/gold detector and feel comfortable knowing that I can have some degree of discrimination available to me as well as having a machine that is made to find gold.

I'm new to this and still learning and I'm just trying to make the best decision I can without buying something that I'll not be happy with. I could buy a used original GB for a good price on eBay; but would it be a good decision? If I lived in a good gold area, yes it would because I could use it just for nugget hunting; but I live here in NY and will coinshoot more than gold hunt here. So, at least I have a much better understanding of what I need now thanks to you guys. All I need to do now is get someplace where there is some good gold, lol.

I would never want to dig 9 to 10 inch targets, that's too deep to dig for me. I don't think I could last long digging targets that deep, every now and then is okay.

Edit:
I've learned that most of the times people dig deep is because the target is hard to pinpoint so they dig larger and deeper holes. I know this because that's what I was doing, and then when I looked at some others I noticed the same thing.

These are some of the typical targets that I recover when I hunt with the Gold Bug 2 on trashy scraps. On a side note I can pass up most pull tabs if I sweep and then check them with the coil in 2 directions.

great info! I have the new gold bug II and I dont really pay much attention to the sounds I just dig when it beeps, otherwise I wont be able to sleep at night not knowing what that beep was, thats probly why I find so much trash...I originaly baught it to use at a gold claim we came across , but its about six hours away and the BLM shuts down the roads in the winter , so I try and get out and hit up spots here in washington. It seems like it picks up just about anything..sometimes it will beep hard and I dig and dig and sift and sort and never find what it is beeping kind of gets me a litlle P.O ..but all in all I am happy with it see what it picks up at our claim spot this summer cant wait
