chippie said:Hi guys!
Just signed up as there is not much talk about the Go Detect app and the Deus, came across this post via Google.
Irrespective of the state of the app etc., considering the fact V4 has an option for 'Go Detect' under 'Configuration' (no selection available at least for me) and that it is also mentioned in the manual (shows YES/NO options in the pictures) how on earth would the Deus be able to connect to our phones? It does not have a Bluetooth or WiFi chip on it (not that I know and it has not been activated with V4 as far as I can see)? The only way I can think is that the HF Coils or PinPointer may have one of them and act as a bridge or even that there is a Controller box hardware revision to accommodate this functionality.
Does anyone have any further info or insight on this please?
If this is not going to go anywhere then I am surprised that XP have left the menu option in there (or am I lol). Surely they cannot be that naive to try and introduce functionality that the hardware cannot physically support?
Thanks!

Then had my phone scan for devices to pair... And it found one named "XP Deus". I paired with it and then the phone app was able to see the coil. Since the app is still under development, it doesn't work totally and that's expected. But I believe I was wrong about it using WiFi because apparently the Deus has a Bluetooth chip in it and it can pair to a phone. I was always under the impression that Bluetooth wasn't fast enough for that sort of transmission, but it appears I was wrong. Looking forward to the app release in a couple months.

I must admit I am pretty stunned by this (although please that there is a way to connect to it) as none of my BT scanners have ever picked anything when the Deus has been powered on, and still do not after the V4 update (it could be hidden of course but normally the scanner programs I use can pick these up). How long have you had yours for please? I wonder if there is a hardware revision where they incorporated a Bluetooth chip into the controller. When you get a moment please could you go into the config menu and see if you have any options under the GO DETECT section? I just have "---" on mine. Also are you perhaps using the new HF coil? If so perhaps that has the BT chip built into that instead of the controller itself?
I work in IT and electronics and having radio built into a system simply does not allow you to use it for WiFi even if it uses the same frequencies, there is a lot more to it than that. GoPro uses WiFi because it is built that way. You you need specific hardware with proprietary authentication chips etc. in there to be able to create a WiFi link to another system.
Thanks for the update and look forward to hearing if you have any options under the GO DETECT menu, if you do then my guess is that there has been a controller hardware revision or the HF coil contains the Bluetooth chip.

On my Controller I have NO options under GO DETECT, just "---" so I can only assume that there is possibly a hardware revision out there where they have added a Bluetooth chip to the controller :-(
Not good as there has been zero communication on this from XP themselves. (I purchased mine about 3 or so years ago) Please don't get me wrong I understand that the hardware changes etc. and have no complaints there, I am simply a little annoyed that there has been not been a single bit of info from XP about this, in fact they consistently state that the hardware has not changed etc... and that the f/w will give everyone the same updated features with firmware releases...
Still, I will force a f/w update again, perhaps it just failed on part of it, you never know.
Thanks again for the update, I will report back with any further info I manage to get.
EDIT: Not to mention I am not even able to login the Go Detect anymore or even create a new account, same thing numerous people are reporting looking at the comments in the Play Store. Wonder if that have region restricted it or similar...
