Go Detect

So will Go Detect work now with the 4.0?

I haven't been able to get that App to work (Grey Screen no map) and could never get a email response from them.

The app is under final development for the Deus . . .the V4.0 software is ready with the features that will be active but it about a month or so out

reviews i read arent good seems like the app is garbage, and no cant create an account

Hi guys!

Just signed up as there is not much talk about the Go Detect app and the Deus, came across this post via Google.

Irrespective of the state of the app etc., considering the fact V4 has an option for 'Go Detect' under 'Configuration' (no selection available at least for me) and that it is also mentioned in the manual (shows YES/NO options in the pictures) how on earth would the Deus be able to connect to our phones? It does not have a Bluetooth or WiFi chip on it (not that I know and it has not been activated with V4 as far as I can see)? The only way I can think is that the HF Coils or PinPointer may have one of them and act as a bridge or even that there is a Controller box hardware revision to accommodate this functionality.

Does anyone have any further info or insight on this please?

If this is not going to go anywhere then I am surprised that XP have left the menu option in there (or am I lol). Surely they cannot be that naive to try and introduce functionality that the hardware cannot physically support?

Thanks! :)

works fine for me

What works fine? The app or connecting it to the Deus?

I cannot login with the ID I created a while back nor can I create a new new one. Have you logged in recently? Also every recent review out there states that people are no longer able to login on Android anyway, I will try iOS later this evening.

Still baffled as to how people will be able to connect the Deus to their phones though.

WiFi uses a few specific bandwidths of radio frequencies. The Deus communicates to all the components using radio frequencies. So I believe/think that the new Go Detect app (when its ready) will communicate with the coil using the phones WiFi and the Deus will use its existing RF chips to communicate on the WiFi frequency.

GoPro uses this same technology to communicate with its phone app. I have an older GoPro Hero 3 which has a WiFi button on it. When enabled, the GoPro camera broadcasts a Wifi network that the phone app connects to. Then the app on the phone can control the GoPro through the WiFi rf that its connected with.

Bluetooth would be too slow transmitting and receiving, so RF would be the most logical communication channel using hardware that the Deus and smartphones already have.

Correct about WiFi, I can use the "Go Detect" the map comes up and the APP seems to work fine I have not tried connecting to the Dues as I don't think the APP is ready for that. I read it's going to ready in about 1-2 months

Thanks Andy. I had a feeling it was still in the works.

So I think I might have been totally wrong about it using WiFi! Ha. I just tried it and the app made me enable Bluetooth on my phone. So I did. Then had my phone scan for devices to pair... And it found one named "XP Deus". I paired with it and then the phone app was able to see the coil. Since the app is still under development, it doesn't work totally and that's expected. But I believe I was wrong about it using WiFi because apparently the Deus has a Bluetooth chip in it and it can pair to a phone. I was always under the impression that Bluetooth wasn't fast enough for that sort of transmission, but it appears I was wrong. Looking forward to the app release in a couple months.

I must admit I am pretty stunned by this (although please that there is a way to connect to it) as none of my BT scanners have ever picked anything when the Deus has been powered on, and still do not after the V4 update (it could be hidden of course but normally the scanner programs I use can pick these up). How long have you had yours for please? I wonder if there is a hardware revision where they incorporated a Bluetooth chip into the controller. When you get a moment please could you go into the config menu and see if you have any options under the GO DETECT section? I just have "---" on mine. Also are you perhaps using the new HF coil? If so perhaps that has the BT chip built into that instead of the controller itself?

I work in IT and electronics and having radio built into a system simply does not allow you to use it for WiFi even if it uses the same frequencies, there is a lot more to it than that. GoPro uses WiFi because it is built that way. You you need specific hardware with proprietary authentication chips etc. in there to be able to create a WiFi link to another system.

Thanks for the update and look forward to hearing if you have any options under the GO DETECT menu, if you do then my guess is that there has been a controller hardware revision or the HF coil contains the Bluetooth chip.

My setup it only about a year and a half old. I have v4 on it now and no HF coils. All I did was set Go Detect to "Yes" on the Deus and start up the XP Detect app on my phone. It said that bluetooth must be enabled on my phone, so I did. With my Deus I had my phone search for pairable bluetooth devices and it found "XP Deus". Back in the phone app, in the "Searching for disk" I clicked the refresh button and it found the coil and paired. But the app is still under development and its not totally working as expected. So I'll hang tight until the release it. I believe you have to set the "Go Detect" to "Yes" in v4 to get it enabled so the phone can pick up the device. There are no other options under "Go Detect" on the Deus, just setting it to Yes is all thats there. It appears everything else is done on the phone.

I assume your running an Andriod phone as the iPhone only has the "Go Detect" app and isn't found via Bluetooth or Wifi. Guess we are waiting for XP to release a compatible iPhone version :)

Thank You for the reply.

On my Controller I have NO options under GO DETECT, just "---" so I can only assume that there is possibly a hardware revision out there where they have added a Bluetooth chip to the controller :-(

Not good as there has been zero communication on this from XP themselves. (I purchased mine about 3 or so years ago) Please don't get me wrong I understand that the hardware changes etc. and have no complaints there, I am simply a little annoyed that there has been not been a single bit of info from XP about this, in fact they consistently state that the hardware has not changed etc... and that the f/w will give everyone the same updated features with firmware releases...

Still, I will force a f/w update again, perhaps it just failed on part of it, you never know.

Thanks again for the update, I will report back with any further info I manage to get.

:)

EDIT: Not to mention I am not even able to login the Go Detect anymore or even create a new account, same thing numerous people are reporting looking at the comments in the Play Store. Wonder if that have region restricted it or similar...

Since Go Detect is still unreleased and they are still developing it. So I wouldnt be too concerned about not being able to log in yet. Once they release it, if it still doesnt let you log in, then that will be a problem. For now I was just messing with it to see if I could get it to attach to my coil. I can get the app to connect to it, but it doesn't register targets. Since its not released, that doesnt concern me and its something I will just wait for until they release the final version.

I've seen what you describe on the Deus remote where the Go Detect setting just has "---". That happened to me once when I powered on my remote and my coil was not connected yet and I went to the Go Detect setting. Perhaps try reinstalling v4 or make sure the coil is connected to the remote when you open the setting. I heard the same thing about hardware not changing, so I would think you'd be okay in that regard.

Heres what I did to get it to connect to my coil (and how I discovered it used bluetooth)

Enabled Go Detect on my remote

Enabled bluetooth on my phone and scanned for devices.

Hit the refresh button in the XP Detect app, it found a "Disk" and connected

I'm going to uninstall the app and disable the Go Detect setting on my remote for now. Once the app releases then I will install it again and give it a try for real.

Thanks for the extremely detailed reply. :)

I have already tried that several times, even reverted the f/w back to 3.2 then to 4.0 and still nothing under the setting. I have waited for it to connect to the coil but still the same result. It does make me wonder though that perhaps the BT chips may be in the coil though if that happens and again, perhaps a coil revision came out with the BT chips in, I am loss really as I simply cannot get that option to appear and have tried absolutely everything but will keep at it.

With regards to Go Detect, I was using it before, signed up to the Beta on Android also. Admittedly I have not logged in an a month or so but surely they should not terminate accounts on that basis. Not to mention that there are lots of people reporting the same from February as far as I can see. There has also not been an update for a long time so I am wondering if they are even still working on it or not. I have e-mailed them so will see if I get any sort of reply.

I even took the back off my controller again and cannot see anything there that resembles a BT chip but that does not obviously mean that it is not there of course or even in the coils. This is a feature that I have been longing for so I am just hoping that it is not hardware which will leave me in the position of having to purchase new coils and or controller.

I have also reached out to some people who are pretty tight with Alain so hopefully will get to the bottom if there is indeed a hardware revision which added BT somewhere along the line or if it is just mine that is jinxed lol

Thanks again for all the effort in replying, I am extremely grateful.
