Given that a lot of older coins in the US seem to come from the 6 - 8" range

That is a great tip, Tom. Another way to keep working the site. I would suspect that any unit with a decent iron discrimination range would allow that ability, too don't you think? Of course there are some units that do it better than others.

Thanks crazyman,

The Sov was one I never could gel with. I admire those that can make it work for them. I see in your profile that you have the Advantage as well. They are one of my favorites. I have had one for a few years now and do not plan on letting it go any time soon.

Wow.. the WOT on an Explorer.. Remind me to never get in a fight with anyone that can handle that combo.

Seriously, my MO for hunted out sites as always been to hit them first with a large coil. Not just for the deep stuff because they will light up some mid depth coins smaller coils miss for whatever reason. At least thats been my experience.

The patient methodical method always works. Thanks for the reminder!

Mike one target was a gear from an old watch the diameter of a penny. Yeah small nail reject has always been the best method for me for eeking out the last little bit from a site regardless of the detector used..

Probably because people don't overlap enough with concentrics and a larger concentric is going to do a better job in that mid range you mentioned.

Tom. this is my third try with the Sovereigns. This time I put in about 50-60 hours using it on the beach learning this machine before I tried it for land hunting again. Things just clicked this time and I'm starting to really like the Sovereign. Very deep machine and It doesn't miss much once you learn it. Yes I own 2 Advantage's. They are excellent detectors for hunting in thick iron with good depth also.

Tom, I have tried them all and without a doubt, give me any Explorer and if there are old coins around, I will find them. I just wish they were lighter. R.L.

I'm not in the US, but if I know a site has been hit hard, the first time over I usually lower the sensitivity and look for good targets which may have been misssed because they have been masked by something else.
Then I'll go for more depth and only dig a certain range of targets, then I'll broaden that range. It may not be perfect, but it keeps me interested.
