Getting Access - Tips and Tricks?

Ash - You're over the hump now, nice work. Everybody will approach it in their own way, but there's a lot of good advice people gave you on this thread.

Khouse gave you good advice when he said: "Don't mention digging. Don't mention a shovel or knife. Don't mention...treasure." If someone asks I always say I leave the yard in at least as good condition as I found it, usually better because I pick up any trash I come across.

I always play up the history of what I find, not the value. It sounds like other people who are sucessful at getting permission do the same.

Dahut's idea about business cards sounds like a winner to me too. Business cards make you look more professional and that's always a good thing when you're asking permission.

Why to go through all this humiliation and misery I wonder?

Looks like some of us here do not have any self-respect at all.

Humiliation and misery? No self respect? I'm stumped. Did you post this on the wrong thread?

I just ask if I can go over the lawn with my metal detector to see what was lost over the years.. Neatest one was at a farm with an old inn on the property.Owner was getting ready to repair a fertilizer tank with fiberglass..He said NO.. I asked what are you doing? He said, Fixing this tank, costs too damn much to have a shop do it"..Said, You are doing it wrong, get me a GD cup of coffee, cream and two sugars.. and I'll fix it before I take off..And, I did, and explained every step and why it was being done..He told me Don't get hurt playing around those ruins,I don't want to get sued..I've done some other F/G jobs for him, payment in apples(Northern Spies) what ever. Now, that I see how badly I missed things, will wander back in the early Spring.Be friendly..Cordially NAD
