GeoTech Site Down

Thank-you Christian for the good news !!! Maybe down the road options can be discussed between you and a few senior Geotech members about complete system back-ups and server options or even an assistant administrator . The Geotech Forum and its library of files are priceless !!!!! ..................Christian and everyone on this forum also , Have a Very Merry Christmas and a Healthy , Happy , Prosperous New Year 2009 !!!!...........................Regards............................Eugene52

Christian: Great, we look forward to the new site. If the original URL changes, please post the new one here.

We at Geotech want to make sure the search function indexes very short words (like two letters) so we can search for components like "C9", etc.

Also, if there is a way to filter a search for messages with attached files and by name of attached file, that is highly useful also.

Thanks for your efforts, it must be a big deal to re-host.

Cheers,

-SB

Hey SB, Just wanted to let you know that Christian runs the forums at THunting.com. As I understand it, Carl operates the GeoTech site and Christian hosts them for him. A service that I for one really appreciate. I am sure Carl will like to see your suggestions when he gets back in touch.

If you have not been on the THunting.com forums lately, you are in for a treat. Christian had just recently done a major upgrade to them.

And I can tell you from experience that it can be a big job to change hosting sites. Web hosting companies have very little that is standard in terms of directory structure and software that they provide. They can really be a pain to work with at times also. My host was having issues with dropping connections during file transfers. As a result, my clients would have to try several times to get a file uploaded or down loaded. Then they started charging me for exceeding my transfer limits each month. I paid more as a base rate for a new hosting company, but less overall.

HH,
Rip

Hello all,

it unfortunately takes some time to upload all the files to the new server as there are over 70.000 files exceeding 4 GB storage. Just teh Geotech database is over 600 MB in size and need to be transfered by cutting it down into several smaller pieces. This unfortunately takes a lot of time.

I ams ure Carl will be open towards forum changes and improvements when he is back. You should best start a thread about these things when the forum is back up and running.

Regards,

Christian

The urls are blocked by this site in the forums and pm so you will have to get them another way.

The geotech url is the same as it has always been. The other one is available from the geotech page as is this site.

Rip

Geotech and Thunting . com are now back online. You can again visit Geotech at www . geotech. thunting . com

Thank you all for your patience and support

First, Geotech is not going away!

An unfortunate "perfect storm" occurred last week where I left for a week with no Internet access and my web host shut down my account, without warning, due to hackers. I spent the whole week having no idea what was going to happen. Thankfully, my friend Christian worked to get all the files moved to a new host and restored everything.

Going foward, Geotech will again move, this time to a new, dedicated domain. So there will probably be a few more hiccups and down time, but I am 100% committed to keeping Geotech active.

Thanks,
Carl

Thanks for the update Carl. And, glad to see you back and at it.

The new host for the THunting site seems to be an improvement. Pages are loading faster now. I told Christian that it may have been for the best that it happened.

Hope the holidays are going well for you and I wish you the best for the new year,
Rip

At this moment, can other people get to the Geotech forums? I still get "Database error..." when try, for last few hours. One of the hiccups?

-SB

I think they may be working on the links to it. The front page url changed a little while ago so I suspect that may be what is going on with the forums.

Apparently the brief time the forums were up the last couple of days, they were still errantly linking to the database on our old host service. That host service just turned them off, so now I need to get the database set up on the new host service. It's a pretty major task, so it'll take me a day or two to get it done.

Stay tuned...
