Geocaching Gamepiece...I think they quit looking for it!

I found this Geocach Gamepiece this evening after dinner at a local neighborhood park. Rain and overcast skies most of the day made it a somewhat comfortable time to be out.
$2.56 in change and some gold colored...I don't know what:shrug: were the other finds. I had no idea what the black cylinder container (TID42) was till I got home. Looks like the last entry was in 2007. So it's been buried next to a PVC post for 7 years! It's aluminum from what I can tell and has a o-ring in the cap that kept it water tight. My guess is it was placed there to be found by other players, but I don't think it was buried at the time, but after not being found worked it's way into the ground. Geocaching.com is still an active web site so I might do some more investigating about it. GL ALL

I was a Geocacher years ago. Still have my handheld Garmin gps. I got tired of finding the ones in poison oak & ivy!! LOL

You may wanna relocate it and let the web site know where.

HH y'all.

Was indeed big fad a few years ago. Around my area it has died out in popularity as of late.. I did geo hunting a few times myself. Just never really felt the thrill others said they experienced form it.

I don't think anyone on these forums have found a Geocache item before, at least they haven't posted one. I can never understand Geocaching. For me personally, I would want to find something of worth, a gold ring or silver coin etc; but that's me and I figure many others don't understand why we do what we do. Everyone to his own I guess! Great finds and I'm still trying to figure out what that gold colored thingummy is?? lol!!

I have accidentally found two caches, without a GPS while woods hunting. That sure is a weird hobby. I guess ours is too but at least we get something in return for our money

I found a 'letterbox' a few years back while metal detecting some high dunes/woods ...it had a notebook in it, and you were supposed to write something, and the date and time and rehide it somewhere...it had a lot of entries in it, and some were pretty cool...poems and whatnot...shoulda took a pic of the inside, but heres what the outside looked like. Nice find Bob!:clapping:

Never heard of Geocaching till yesterday. Emailed the web site but no response so far.
No idea what it is GS. not magnetic, 7.9g, not as bright and shinny inside.
Mud...I'm surprised that with your way with words you didn't write SOMETHING??? I'm sure you could of left them laughing:lol:, stunned and bewildered:huh: or calling 911:surprised:

I did geocache for a few years. It was nice when folks hid the "Cache" in an area that you would be interested in visiting. I quit when most of them became either bison tubes (pictured in the original post) or 35mm film cans and were placed everywhere.
.

I've found several geocaches in my local parks. I just sign in, leave a dug coin or something and replace it where I found it.
