Gas prices, and detecting............Where do you draw the line.

Right now I am trying to stay local if possible. I have some spots that are calling me though. Need to go and check them out but have not. I am looking at getting a 4 banger and dumping my 6. The reason I have not is it is paid for. So I will try to stay local, Beale.

hi all, i drive interstate 95 back and forth to work every day. i'm not a fast driver, never have been. i pretty much do the speed limit, and am passed a lot by 80% of the other drivers, some in these huge gas - guzzling palaces on wheels. 75 - 85 mph seems to be the standard. i can guarantee you that fully 90% of these cars have only one person in them! whatever happened to carpooling? it's gotten way out of hand. there will be no more v8's in my driveway.
wer'e doing it to ourselves. don't you think the oil companies, the speculators, and the government see what we are doing? do you really think they're that blind and ignorant? i think not. we all know that us americans have had a love affair with our cars for...well, forever. well, it's time to wean us off of it. slow down america! just 10 mph! that'll put a big dent in their plans.
so, no, it really doesn't affect my detecting. i have plenty of local places i can go to. we all knew this was gonna happen. just a matter of time.

it,s even worse over here in the uk, unleaded is over $10 dollars a gallon, you have to carpool now if you drive any distance for a dig. i used to own a mustang but i could not afford to run one these days

I was fortunate enough to come across 1997 Cavalier a couple years back. Its 4cyc and when its running right,
gets 38.9 miles to the gallon on the highway. But thats if your keeping it at 55mph. I was getting 26 to 28 in the city.
Right now I have to replace the catalytic converter and I'll have it running right again, but even as is I'm getting 24mph in the city and 30+
on the highway. You could still do ok if you got an Automatic 97 Cavalier but stick shifts do better and are cheaper to repair the transmission when they go haywire. If you see a cheap Cavalier around 97 or so, snap it up!!!!

get a yaris!..40 plus all around!.."dead nuts reliable!"

I am all for conservation but I remember everyone saying that the Alaskan pipeline would be a disaster and it is not as far as I know, has there ever been a large oil spill that was not attributed to a tanker? I am not sure but I can't remember one. I think we can blame ourselves more than anyone, let's take a little responsibility here we have been selfish with our big gas guzzling cars and suvs.I don't trust big business to much either but I know I have had my share of V-8s and I still own a pickup truck but it will be the last one.

The Hummer will still get me where I need to go.Never liked car pooling. The guys I hunt with would probably get me permanently banned from my favorite park.

i like the one on the right!..looks economical!

(h.h!)
j.t.

The little golf cart all summer on a tank or two of gas.It would be nice to use in the current park I'm searching you could carry a cooler and extra equipment.

Ya we'll pay it alright. They know we will. I usually go out detecting with a couple of guys. We share gas expenses and do have lots of fun. It's a friendly rivalry to see who gets the good stuff first. But gas won't stop me from detecting even if it's 10 bucks a gallon, but it will influence how far I wander:cool:

The land is devistated in areas.

Countless wild life died.

If you take out 10,000 acre in one area

it's awful and imbarrasing. Why do they destroy

anything worth a dam?

Do we really want do destroy everything good?

That is in progress and fuled by unconcern.

We let someone destroy our lands and could care less.

How could man be so stupid and

unconcerned.

No one wants to see the devistation.

The Uncle Sam doesn't want you to see it.

It is just ignored by most.

If you say something about it then your a tree hugger.

How can people be so selfish that nothing is respected.

If we act like animals, we are the fat and unsatisfied,

we are below the other animals.

We have to be responsible humans or will pay later.

There have been a constant list of spills from thses

lines not being able to function properly.

This goes on constantly but there are no birds to save.

They want us to just ignore it.

Spills are constant and poisoning the land.

Ground a water destroyied. It's now poison.

But who cares? Go back to sleep...:goodnight:

HH,

Today, if we spent the amount it cost to build it, the

line would only get a bandaid.

The cost of repareing the land is beyond any countries ability

to make such an effort.

Most people will not make such a choice unless they

can make others suffer the conciquences. THAT'S US:blink:

But we went along with it. Oh well, let the rugrats suffer later.

They want be cute anymore anyway.

We're all right,

:usmc:

Just a point in thought. The oil producing countries are receiving over $130.00 a barrel for oil, shouldn't we be charging the same to them for a bushel of wheat. Thoughts? I spent my time in middle east. not much grows over there!!!!

I'll give you one answer ----- GREED FOR MONEY! WE could do so much as a society if we only got rid of money.
