GARRETT PROPOINTER PROBLEM

Not a happy camper. Bought one new on jan 29, received on Feb 1, tried first time that friday 3rd. Started having problems right away. Call Garrett on monday the 6th, lady told me since i just bought she would mark it to be replaced. Sent to the the same day. They received on the 9th. I called them the following week to find out they were repairing the pinpointer. I got it in the mail yesterday the 17. Not happy to find the pinpointer with the SAME PROBLEM. Now i have the price of the pinpointer and shipping to them to repair this pinpointer that i cant use. Now i have to call them again monday, would like to have money refunded for pinpointer and shipping. Hope this wont be a problem to. Tom

What are the problems?
Make sure your holding the tip away from any metal when turning it on.
Leave it on the duration of finding your target.
What is your detector your using tje Propointer with?

[size=large]you're the first i've heard of having this much trouble with the Garrett Pro Pointer. much less two in a row. unless garrett mailed the old one back cause they couldn't find a problem. maybe if you discribe the problem someone on the forum may already know the solution.

Problem is when you get in the hole moving around in the dirt pinpointer goes off slightly constantly, i remove from hole and put next to the ground anywhere and it does the same thing. If i leave on and unscrew batt cap then screw it back on its seems okay until i turn it on again. They sent me back the same pinpointer, the repair paper says they repaired the battery clips. Before i sent in when this problem started i could pull out of the hole and touch it on my body anywhere and it would go off with a little pressure against me. Hope to get a refund to possibly get a inline probe. Tom

The Pointer cannott be touching dirt or any metal object (rings on fingers count too) when you turn it on...Where are you located, and what type of soil are you hunting in?
What detector are you using, as they may be near the same frequency and cross talking...

HH,

Also the lady i talked to before i sent it back said that material used to make the tip might have a hair line crack in it. That would cause the problem i'm talking about. Tom

It will sound off in a dug hole if you turned it on holding it in the air when first turning it on away from metal. It is picking up minerals in the soil below the top inches of ground. To fix that, turn the Pro Pointer off, stick in the hole at the botton, hold it still and turn it on. It has just been retuned to handle the mineralization in the soil. Now pushing it against yourself will cause it to sound off. Two things happen. One, is that you are putting pressure on the transducer on the tip of the pointer, and too much pressure will in fact set it off. Mine has always done that. If you put that same amount of pressure on some of the cheaper units available, they will break. Trust me....I have had many. The other issue with pushing it against your skin is that your blood contains iron (hemoglobin) in the red blood cells. Too much iron of course can set off the Pro Pointer. It's supposed to do that. Even my PI detector can pick that up.

So I am not sure if in fact your electronic pinpointer was faulty. But do contact Garrett, they should look after you. Good luck. I hope you get your issues reolved. :)

I understand the minerals in the ground but when it starts acting up i remove it from the hole, leave it on and remove the battery cap then screw it back on it turns back on then i put it back in the hole and its okay. I had one of these before and never had this problem. Also found out i'm 30% bionic so that explains the pinpointer going off on me. Tom

It's really hard to know if it is faulty or not without actually trying it out. Give Garrett a call and they will look after you.

The detecting deep for one coin dim. 0.6inch
the best pinpointer one can tip detecting 0.4inch for 99% gold ring and 1.2inch for 99% gold coin

Called Garrett, there going to send me a new one in a week or two when they get more in. " Wonder who makes these for them, i would think they made these. Tom

Bad coil! Mine did the same thing. The one I got back works better than my original one I sent back. I bet I had the problem from day one with my original. Garrett will make it right. Super customer service

When they get more in?????? Don't they build the pinpointer themselves?

I've had the pro pointer for about a month. Yesterday I noticed that it would begin to beep and continue to beep even while held in the air. I changed to a new battery thinking that the one I was using was failing. Same problem. To correct the continuous beeping I turned it off and then on again while holding it in the air. Beeping stopped but finding targets within 1" started to become a problem. Today I found that I have to be within a 1/4" of a target or it will not beep. Also, at times, it doesn't beep even though it's held against the Garrett digger. Things are definately wrong. Tomorrow I plan to call Garret to see what might be happening. Anyone else have this kind of problem?

I have one that is doing the same thing. I've had it about a month and it seemed to work ok when I first got it but it started messing up shortly after I changed the battery. I thought I had put the battery in wrong but took it out and re-installed it and it did the same thing. I even tried a different battery thinking the new one I had put is was somehow bad and it made no difference. Turn it on then place it in the hole and as soon as it hits the ground it sounds off and will not stop until you cut the switch off.

9 chances outta 10...made in Asia. But almost all our electronics are manufactured in Asia...and they can do great work there. Everyone slips up on now and then on an item. I'd say Garrett will get you out a brand new one before long.

After a year of much use my Pro Pointer would false. Turn off and back on and sometimes it would work and some times it would go to giving a false contact.

I contacted Garrett. Sent it back and had it back in my grubby paw in 8 days. The only part of the old one that I got back was the slip of paper with the serial number and the battery cap. I definitely can not complain about Garrett's service. I dont think company does a better job of taking care of their customers.

In the meantime I had purchased a New unit and when I got it home it would not quit beeping. It did not matter what I did with it. Took it back to the dealer and he offered to refund my money or replace the unit. I chose to let him replace the unit as I Never want to be without a Pro Pointer. So now I have two.

Any item that Humans manufacture can fail. And it will fail at the most inopportune time.
