Garrett Pro Pointer

I am primarily a beach/water hunter so my Garrett Pro Pointer is hardly used, still looks like new, and works perfectly. $70 via PayPal delivered anywhere in the continental US.

Thanks for looking!

Tony

I don't want to ruffle your feathers the wrong way but I have to ask . Could this be one from China ? The end cap on this one looks like it's a clone . Go to Google and type in " Real Garrett Pro Pointer or Fake " and check out " MD-Hunter Blog " and look at the end caps . And there's a Youtube video showing what you need to know like those numbers in the white area ... Garrett doesn't put numbers there ... but China clones do ...
Check this stuff out and you'll see ... IMHO , Woodstock

I bought it new from Ron at Windy City Detectors in November of 2009 (I believe that was long before the counterfeits even hit the market), beeps twice when I turn it on (counterfeit beeps one), has great range (counterfeit has dismal range), beeping and vibration increases with proximity as expected, etc. It looks like new because it has hardly been used. Serial number is clearly visible - feel free to run it by Garrett.

Well I'm not trying to call you a liar but my old beat up one has no serial numbers ... maybe Garrett changed it and someone else with more info can weigh in on this ... and I have to add that yours looks very nice and would fetch $90 shipped easy seeing they cost $127 new . So even if your not using it much why $65 when shipping will be $10 ? I really don't care why ... but I'm just sayin' . If Ron want's it that's fine with me all I posted is widely availible and I just suggested to do some researching ... I see no harm in that advice but you take offence to it . So PLEASE if somebody out there can confirm the serial number question and when that happened by Garrett we'll both know and Ron can get a great deal .... e'nuff said , Woodstock

Wow, maybe I'm missing something here but it seems to be none of your business Woodstock. There's no reason to believe that this is a counterfeit.

Woodstock – you are the one making a big deal out of this, not me and not Ron. I did not even know counterfeits exited until after I placed this item for sale. At that point I did some research watching YouTube videos since I had never heard of counterfeits being a problem before.

It appears that the counterfeits came along in about 2013. Mine was purchased in 2009 which is WAY before the counterfeits surfaced. The counterfeits beep once when turned on – mine beeps twice. The button on the counterfeit feels stiff while the button on mine feels soft. The battery cap on the counterfeit appears to leave a gap, mine is more of a smooth fit. The counterfeit has a pronounced dimple on the pointer end – mine is less pronounced.

In the video you pointed me to the counterfeit needs to practically touch the target AND only beeps while it is in motion next to the object. Mine begins beeping and vibrating at range and will beep and vibrate like crazy while holding it still next to the object. The tonal sound of the counterfeit is much different than mine. The tonal sound of mine matches the tonal sound of a genuine Pro Pointer in one of the comparison videos I found. All of these things taken together pretty much remove ANY doubt that my Pro Pointer is not genuine.

As for pricing I looked what used Pro Pointers were selling for on eBay. While mine is in super condition I know there are newer models of the Garrett pointers. Since mine has been collecting dust for years I decided to sell it at a price point I thought was reasonable. Could I have gotten more - perhaps. I have sold plenty of items on treasure hunting message boards over the years and have never had one complaint.

While I can appreciate that forum members look out for one another you have gone overboard casting doubt on my reputation without any evidence to the contrary.

Woodstock, I have to disagree with one of your points. A used original Pro-Pointer, even a very nice condition one, is going to struggle to fetch $90 on this forum. Beyond counterfeits, all the competition, especially the depth improved AT aka Garrett Carrot, have hurt the market for the 1st gen. black one.

Even bringing this up does makes it look like you are questioning Tony's reputation by implying that Tony is asking only $70 because there is something questionable about the unit.

On the other hand, you are not unreasonable to question from the pics whether the this PP is legit.

John Bortscher who moderates the Garrett forums has posted original/fake pictures and the end cap on this one does match the fake.

But perhaps the fake labeling was copied from a legitimate early Garrett one?

Hopefully someone checks this s/n with Garrett because if this is a legit unit from 2009 then this style end cap should not be shown as a definite fake on the Garrett forums.

" Well hey ... what can I say ? I did ask for more input on this and here you are and I wanna say "Thanks !" And I did base this on reviews on what is and what isn't . And I guess the best resolution is for Tony to post this one in action as discribed ... if he done this then there would be no doubt . And I say screw those Garrett forums cause Garrett offers discount to those whom were victims ... so basically they are aware and can't control it and if you were scammed then they admit to fakes and offer relief to the victims ... and furthermore I NEVER QUESTIONED any ones reputation and said that the last post ... I saw what I believed should be questioned and let another forum member know ... and know only to see what they might be buying ... now I ask you this ... would you not do the same ??? If you say "no" then I have a problem with your opinion period . If you can actually read then tell m I think your barking up the wrong tree here friend ... all I ever said is from what I've read is that this maybe a clone and to check and see and then make a intelligent decision and I asked nothing else . Plus I was respectful to Tony and I said I wasn't calling him a liar ... so. what is wrong with my response ? I did actually believe that here at Finds we look out for each other and that being said ... shouldn't Tony now post a short video or guarantee that this is a legit Garrett ??????????????????????????????? When I now think about it ... I will never call into question or ask another valued Finds member to check anything period and if they get burned it's cause members like you either can't comprehend what they read or can't understand fellowship ... bottom line is I felt this appropriate and necessary and if you disagree I have a nice bridge for sale ............... e'nuff said ................ continue to mis-interpite and say blind ... Woodstock

Show all of us how it works ... and show it soon ... if I gave the wrong advice so frickin' what ??? It pays to look out for each other and THAT WAS ALL I ASKED RON TO DO ... bottom line is this ... seeing your such a butt head on this I can only say for you ... be whom you are and if I ever post anything here DON"T ask for anyone to question my post cause your not able to understand what " I got your back means ". That all I did and you saying I lied ... and well I didn't and where did I give Ron anything advising him except ...............research before you trade or buy .... I value all my fellow Finds opinions and then make my own decisions ... but you just wanna close the deal asap ................. you are and will forever be all alone ... and if you or anyone here disagrees I don't give a Rat's Butt cause everything I said was real ... yours might not be a clone but let that be Ron's choice and back off of me ... your on you rown and if someones trying to help you ... you say frick-off ? e'nuff said and good by ... Woodstock

Well this will be the last time I try to ask someone to check and make sure they are buying a legit one of ANYTHING... you see instead of reealizing what I tried to do you all lit the torches and burned me ! I only asked Ron to make a informed decission and now OI'm the bad guy ... that's not what this was about and I can't believe where it's went .... so just forget everything I said and well ... do what you all please and be happy ... IMHO , Woodstock

Woodstock, there are too many counterfeit pin pointers and metal detectors on the market. These you tube videos are not always correct and can confuse people.Example my last Garrett probe had a serial number on the battery lid and was bought from a dealer it worked great, and as should I have owned at least six of these probes over the years.I have bought a couple of these probes new a while back that just didn't work well which gave false signals in the field.I have dealt with Tony in the Past a good buyer and seller.I appreciate you bringing up this clone problem we all have to be careful.Find's is a great forum and enjoy being a Moderator here on the Sovereign/Excalibur segment. Thanks Ron

Woodstock - you most certainly did attack my reputation without just cause. I am all for members helping members. First off I have been on this board and other TH boards for many years and have sold plenty without any complaints. If you had concerns that this MIGHT be counterfeit, then the right approach would have been to instant message Ron and say something to the effect of “hey did you know there are counterfeits being sold so you may want to touch base with Tony to find out where he purchased it and ensure that it is genuine”. That would have been a reasonable course of action.

Instead in front of the entire message board you post that you feel what I am selling is a clone. How can you not see that as a direct attack on my reputation? My first response was quite cordial and I provided information which I thought made it clear that it was a genuine Pro-Pointer. Then you go into some rant about how the price I am selling it at might suggest I am selling a fake one. So I respond point by point with what amounts to a mountain of evidence that mine is in fact a genuine Pro-Pointer. Again I kept things cordial as possible.

Then you proceed to go on angry three post tirade venting your frustration with other members, asking me to jump through hoops to prove to you that I am not a scammer, and even calling me a “butt head”. I appreciate that Ron jumped in to repair any damage you may have caused to my reputation. And while I did not have to, just to make sure my reputation is in the clear I am posting a video showing this Pro-Pointer in action.

The bottom line, Woodstock, is that you were completely out of line. And I bet the vast majority of other members would agree.

OK ... I've worked all day and I'm tired so I'll make this short ................. everyone is right here , you and Tony and I were all are right . I just put up a question about the questionable because of the price and that was all it was , I never met this to be the firestorm it became for a minute .
I only said that it's worthy to check and see and pointed out what I know now because I feel a victim to clones . Not here but elsewhere in another place and time by a reputable person . It worked fair but it was a clone and that was nearly 5 years back . I bought it because the price was low and almost the same reasons for selling it were used ... and it wasn't Tony either .
I never said directly that this one was , I just pointed out to check everything out and make a informed decision because of what happened to me and I didn't want it to happen to Ron .
That being said I never called ANYONE or ACCUSED anybody so relax Tony cause your reputation is still intact and Ron I know your satisfied after all this to buy the pointer .
In closing I want to thank those who understood and to well I want to apologize to all who's feelings I hurt .................Happy Trails to Everyone ... and HH . Woodstock

Yes , you missed something here ... and I believe it was as much as any members business to watch out for others here and elsewhere . I did have a reason and in my opinion if the shoes were on you feet you'd have the same for anyone . I never pointed any fingers but remembered what happened to me and I wish someone would have asked me to do some research before I became a victim . And there were things that gave me reason to ask Ron to check and make a informed decision I just passed them on so................excuse me for being a stand-up guy . And if there ever becomes another situation were I feel I need to weigh in a word of caution I'll just let let it happen . And from this point on it'll be none of my business .... like it was none of yours , have a nice day . Bye-Bye - Woodstock

Woodstock if you were cheated by someone then the right thing to do is post their name, period. This is the only way we can prevent it from happening. I see more and more people saying someone cheated them but they won't post who it is. Well what good does that do? I have an older Pro Pointer and it looks exactly like this and mine works great. Drives me nuts when there is a problem and there is a comment, I GOT CHEATED, and then no name
