Garrett Pro Pointer vs Treasure Mate Pinpointer

I have had both and there is no comparison between the two. The Garrett is hands down the best hand held pin pointer made. It requires no tuning, it has a speaker loud enough to hear with phones on, and it vibrates. The Treasure Mate I had required constant tuning and changing the battery in the field requires a very small screwdriver. So far as range, the Pro Pointer is equal to or better, but the Treasure Mate requires it to be finely tuned to get any distance. The Garrett is splash proof and built like a tank. Garrett hit a home run when they built the Pro Pointer!

RLOH said it all!!!!----I've owned & used both of those pinpointers & the only thing the Treasure Mate has over on the Garretts Pro Pointer is the warranty.---Lifetime (Treasure Mate) versus 2 yrs. (Pro Pointer).

I'll make it unanimous so far, it's the Pro-Pointer hands down.

I had a Treasure Mate before the Pro-Pointer came out and didn't know any better. As soon as I got the Garrett I knew it wasn't even close.

With the Mate you had to use the screwdriver to take off the hinge to change the battery as RLOH said. And it was a tight uncomfortable squeeze getting the battery in and out. You also had to use the screwdriver to take off the hinge if you wanted to change from vibration to light detection. The Mate was a lot more temperamental, and you had to take off the knobs and put o-rings on if you didn't want your settings to change every other time you set the unit down. Functionally, the Pro-Pointer was better in pretty much every respect.

The Tesoro lifetime warranty was a plus, but after I mailed in a second time to Tesoro for repair and they got it up to snuff I had the Pro-Pointer by then so I said I'm selling this thing. I think the Pro-Pointer has put a severe hurt on the market for the Treasure Mate. When they show up on the market used, the Propointers bring substantially more than the Treasure Mate, even though the Mate costs about around $30 more new.

Pinpointers are going to take a beating because of what they do. I had to mail in my ProPointer for going squirrelly as well. Garrett sent me a brand new one lickety split which I understand is what they normally do when a unit goes bad.

I like the Pro Pointer (I like it)

I also have the --
Treasure Mate (tune/balance)
Uni-Probe (deep)
Vibra-Probe (waterproof)
F-probe (came w/F-75, didn't order separate)
Wizard (1st try)
Sun Rays (attached to 2 detectors)

pro pointer is the best..:clapping::garrett:

Got a chance to trade for a used one time TreasureMate today and made the trade. I took everyones advice about the Propointer and have been very disappointed in the worksmanship of it. When it was new it worked great but went downhill pretty rapidly and was acting very erratic. I took it to Garrett to get it fixed and they fixed it the same day. It worked okay for a few days after that and rapidly declined until I was sick of it. My wife took it to Garrett for me today and she said that it looks brand new and they said they replaced the speaker and the coil so hopefully it is really fixed this time. I am going to give the TreasureMate a try and I will hopefully be able to post an update about my impressions.

I had considered the treasure-mate before I bought my vibraprobe. I still might try one down the road. Still very happy with the VP.

Don't let your bad luck with a dud Pro Pointer throw you off to owning one. More people on the forums use it than easily any other pin pointer and it's rare to hear any problems with it. A few have had trouble with a bad switch but that's rare, and even rarer are a few who have had trouble with it acting eratic. Believe me, I've abused mine. Even dropped it about three different times from a height of about 6 foot unto hard cement when getting my holster I carry it in off the shelf. Despite that, it works like new. That told me a lot about it's durability.

Once I did find the volume was lower than usual. That can be a sign the low battery alarm isn't far away from sounding off, but this time it was a new battery and I thought "Oh No..." Turns out there was dirt in the speaker hole. I washed it under some water slightly after picking at the speaker slit a little with a toothpic (be careful as I think there is a speaker shield thing in there) and that fixed it right up.

My soil is somewhat mineralized but rarely will it false on me, but when that rarity happens just turn it on with the tip touching the ground and it will auto adjust to the ground matrix. Works like a charm.

I am keeping the Propointer, just giving the TM a try

I have two Whites Bullseye II and one Garrett Pro pointer. It is Pro Pointer hands down best.

I have owned both, after losing my first garrett pinpointer in the woods, I decided to try a treasure mate, its okay but the garrett will find stuff easier and faster and deeper and usually i find if the garrett isn't getting the signal after you nose around in the hole or the plug chances are good your target is deeper. I've made up my mind and its a garrett pro pointer for me!

Well my wife got back grom Garrett last night and I got a new Propointer and took it out today. Minenhad been screwed up so lomg, I forgot how good they work when they are working. Thanks Garrett for completely reworking my Propointer. Still looking forward to getting the TreasueMate and trying it out. If I don't like it at least I will have it as a backup to the Propointer.

I've got several of both and prefer the PP EXCEPT both of mine tend to get quirky after using them for a while. The Treasure mates are a bit finicky on tuning, but easy to do once you work with them. At least they haven't gone quirky in use after a few minutes. As far as depth, close to the same at least in mine.

Pescadore.. dude sorry your havin bad luck with the Garrett.. I really like the ProPointer.. its really tough.. sometimes there are lemons.. I hope they get yours taken care of...

Everbody is going to have an opinion on which pinpointer is the best. This is a topic that has been addressed before on this forum. I think it is good to get other people's opinions, but I am glad I did a little research before I bought the Vibraprobe from Treasure Products. Works on PI so no falsing in any ground and no tuning required. There is no on and off button to accidently bump when using it. It can be submersed in water up to 100 feet and is built out of solid construction. Have not tried the Treasuremate or propointer so I can't say on either one. I think we all have the same motto. If something isn't broken, why try to fix it. Just pick one that works for you and provides the best performance and value for your dollar. I am with you bucksport, I will be sticking to using the vibraprobe pinpointer. I have been using the vibraprobe for 2 years now and am always impressed by it. HH
