Was wondering if anyone knows how to operate this dinosaur? A friend of mine gave it to me several years ago and I got it out yesterday just playing with it in the back yard. I am not sure which coil is best to use, it has a medium size coil on the end of it now. How do you distinguish the sounds. Can anyone help?
I started out with the Garrett ads 3 ,Man it was a hell of a detector, True story,I just got into THing and was hunting in a spot where the guys told me they had found a lot of mini balls .On this day I was by self didn't know a blow lot got a good hit and started digging about. 3 foot down YES 2 foot down I found a Cannon ball ,I was so happy I grab everything up ran over to a friend of mine Joe knock on the door and said look what I found he look at me and said do not drop that stay here he came be with a clothes basket full of old sheets he said put it here wait till I move I said why he said you can't see that it has a flat spot on one side I said yep I e ven clean it too ,He then when on to fall me it was exploded cannonball .I about pissed my pants about then and said what we gonna do with it he looked at mw and said call the local police so I did and they came out and got it.it's been a long time since I told that story ,I'm sure glad I didn't have to learn the hard way about what cannon balls to dig.Later on I got me new ads 7x ,I still regret selling those detectors .!!!!!!
I picked up a Master Hunter 7 at a garage sale the other day for $10.00 with a hard case, hipmount kit, (2) 12inch coils and (2) sniper coils. Works great except the meter sticks once in awhile. My dad had one a long time ago so I bought it for the memories.
I hunted with Ground Hog and Master Hunter 70's and early 80's they were really built, top of line back then best you could do was about 6 inches on a dime either one of them. But was using BFO before I bought them never found dimes just Quarters and Halfs with BFO.Sold both as soon as I saw my first motion detector in action.
Great machines. Loved the iron. And I dug alot of shell around Vicksburg for the years I used it from 87'-90'. Hoss heavy 13" coil. The guy I was hunting with then had the ADSII with 13" and that thing was a Hoover. He had it tuned by some shop, down on the Texas coast by someone and he'd dig 10lb Parrots at 2' easy and 20 lb Parrots at close to 3'. That thing was a depth demon. IMO they'd dig just as deep as units costing over $1000 today but masking is the big trend today.
