GARRETT MASTER HUNTER 7

Rob M

New member
Dusted off my master hunter 7 and going to start using it after a very long time. May upgrade to one of Garrett's new fancy models if I get hooked. Are there any tricks to the MH7 I should know other than the basics found in user manual. I appreciate all your suggestions. thanks

Rob, this is a very good detector! Why would you want to upgrade to one of the newer Garrett models? Many consider the older Garretts to be far more superior than their current line! How come you have dusted it off? Was you using some other brand or did you get disinterested in the hobby for a while? For tips, make sure you have a fresh set of batteries and dig some of the targets in the fringe area. Many gold rings fall into the foil and screwcap areas. Take your time scanning an area and enjoy yourself! Some operators supposedly scan a large area in just a few minutes and then claim that it is all worked out! Remember it only takes one gold ring to make a good day!............................HH...............Joe

I have one of those old MH7's myself. Stored it in the attic and noticed that the wires are worn out. Do any of you have schematics to this model? I've been using an ExII but thought of bringin back to life my old gal. Any help would be much appreciated.

This machine is a Ball Buster in weight, depth and if used for relic hunting [ only ] with the 12" or larger coils,!!!!!!!!!!!...Remember,this is a VLF,manual ground balance,no bells and whistle's machine...It's works like a AM radio, the further you travel from a station, you can always keep it tuned for another 10 miles or so....Buy yourself knee pads,,get a cooler,,entrenching tool and hunt on land where digging is no problem..Set your dis on 1 and dig every signal and at the end of 30 days,,you will have bragging rights and the blisters to show for it

I like the MH ADS 7X and ADS 5X.....................these are the same as the ADS 7 except they use the Crossfire Coils instead of the original coils! Have one inch or 2 inches better depth than the ADS 7. These are nice since parts and extra optional equipment is easily available and affordable!..............................................HH................Joe

I haven't peered into this forum in some time, I see there are some fans of the MH7. Boy this tank sure pulled some good stuff out of the ground and I sure got hooked into MDing again. I picked up the GTI2500 and as new as it is I must say its not as advanced as one might expect from the technology available, but I like it and its a lot easier to swing. Well HH

I remember my old Master Hunters, ran sooo smooth, you could hear the slight change of the threshold when you went over a

deep musketball using the 10 1/2" coil.

I bought the Master Hunter 7 ADS in 1988 and although it's got a few scruffs it still works as well as it did when new. It came with the standard 7.5 and 12.5 inch coils, and I bought the Bloodhound Depth Multiplier for it but only used the Bloodhound and the 12.5 coil a couple of times each. I still have everything that came with it, soft case, headphones, manual, etc., except Modern Treasure Hunting, the book Charles Garrett wrote, that was lost by a relative and the metal arm rest I never used. that somehow got misplaced. I take the MH 7 out about once a month and use it for an hour or so, that's about as long as I can swing it as old age and arthritis don't mix well with it's weight and the way it's made.

So I bought it, lucky me LOL

Maybe if I attach some helium ballons to the box it will make it lighter.....

I hope it comes with the armrest, forgot to ask.

I picked up a Master Hunter 7 at a garage sale the other day for $10.00 with a hard case, hipmount kit, (2) 12inch coils and (2) sniper coils. Works great except the meter sticks once in awhile. My dad had one a long time ago so I bought it for the memories.

I swung an ADS-7 for several years back in the 80's and found a lot of coins, jewelry, and relics with.. I've always regretted selling it. I think that I still have a battery tray for it somewhere..

It didn't work because someone had left the batteries in the thing and must have stored it that way.
lots of corrosion, and the battery tray I had to hard wire to harness inside the unit. Now it seems to work flawlessly, just need to go find some treasure.

that's an awesome deal! I'm jealous. I paid 20 for mine and it was in need of repair and only had the 7.5" coil.
I wish I could afford to get more for this.

Could I possibly talk you out of the battery tray? I need to refurb my old master hunter 7, (Still my favorite machine) it still works, but for some reason has gotten really quiet, but works well. new batteries doesn't change the low volume...any suggestions?

I just bought a MH 7. I was using a Groundhog S3. I let my brother have my S3 so I needed a new detector since I wanted to get back into the hobbie. Glad to see people like these. I see they sell high for an older detector.
