Frustrated Beginner

See what happens when someone reads the advertising copy that points out how easy it is to find treasure?
The accompanying photos of handfuls of gold and silver are a bit optimistic also.
Reading the ads for ANY detector you would think it tells you exactly what is in the ground before you recover it.
WE know better ... but someone new does not and is disappointed when he learns the truth about VID and its limitations.

At least he chose a quality detector and not one of those snake oil LRD devices.

Hang in there Chuckciao and you will find some nice treasures ... it just dont happen instantly.
You have a good metal detector, a great resource of information here on this forum, and a lot of friendly people that want you to succeed and are willing to help you learn to use your new Garrett Ace 250.

Oh ... Yeah ... Welcome to a very exciting and rewarding hobby and to the Garrett forum.

Thanks to all of you who responded to my "frustrated beginner" cry for help. Today, I am a little less frustrated because I took the advice of many of you and felt far more comfortable on my outing today. I even found two not so old pennies but it is a start. Your suggestions gave me a lot of great ideas, tips, techniques, and most of all, confidence to keep on digging.
Thanks again
Chuckciao

Just keep at it and trying what you were told here. Before long you may
be able to help the next frustrated beginner.
Best of luck to you ! Gene

Oh I forgot to mention...

If you detect your yard and or your families yards or any yards...make sure you know where the utilities are!:thumbup:

I know I'm gonna take some heat from some seasoned vets who say you have to crawl before you can walk, but I'm gonna say it anyway.

Consider getting a pinpointer. My favorite of the ones I've tried is the Garrett Pro-Pointer.

Your recoveries will be faster and neater and your pinpointing learning curve will be shorter.

And listen to Uncle Willy about tot lots and using the coin mode!
