Friendly hello and some questions about Tesoro's!!

I went to high school in northern Chester County. Was not detecting at the time, but it was generally fertile and loamy soil that would not have presented much in the way of problems for pre-set ground balance models.

Looking at some geological composition maps, you are kind of in the middle of mild dirt country. Can always be pockets that don't match that and some areas where clay is brought in for ball fields or horseshoe pits can be challenging but they should be the exceptions.

Saw an article a few weeks ago about some knuckle heads detecting and digging in the woods skirting the battlefield but still within the park. They were arrested and are being prosecuted; as they should be. I'm sure that wasn't you!!!
Cheers,

you start losing depth and missing good targets.

Welscome to the forum nor10

Hi Les in the UK - I found with my GuMax I don't lose any depth when using the Notch. I did some testing with Thresh hold at 3 O'clock, Sens at 10 and Disc at minimum. All coins and jewelry held a consistent depth. I was expecting it to drop a bit. As expected as you raise the Disc you will lose a bit.

Is notch not a form of discrimination, on the F75 if you notch out iron and then notch out other targets you lose depth. I would think that the same would apply to Tesoro detectors.
Many thanks for putting me on the right track if my thinking is wrong mike. Les in the UK

You're right that its a form of discrimination but on my Golden I don't lose depth in the Notch mode, if there is, it's slight and I just don't see it. On the flip side I do lose more dept at lower disc settings on the Golden. On most of my other detectors I don't see any significant depth lose until I'm at nearly 75% of max disc. Grab your Golden and give it a try. Another good question for Robert.

Mike you're correct. When you turn up the discrimination on the Golden, it loses depth, but notching doesn't seem to affect depth as much.

Because of this, I run my Golden at minimum discrimination and let the audio tell me that it's iron.

If the Golden is set up correctly, it gets really good depth.
