Frame size

New member
Don't see much discussion on what size frame people are running.
In a lot of trash would a smaller than default of 3x3 be the better choice? I am currently using the stock coil until i find a 6" one if that has any effect on the frame size in trashy areas.

Any info. is appreciated.
just piddling

Are you talking about the frame size used while editing or did I miss something?

You have the option of 1x1 , 2x2 , 3x3 and 5x5 frame sizes for editing and how they affect target ID's in different situations. I guess i really do not understand their use.
Thanks

The frame sizes for editing are just the number of frames (squares) that you can select at one time, to accept or reject, when make discrimination patterns. The screen is comprised of 50 frames (squares) across and 35 frames from top to bottom. The 1x1 (1 frame), 2x2 (4 frames), 3x3 (9 frames), & 5x5 (25 frames) are available when editing patterns in the CTX. In XChange2, you have 1x1, 2x2, 3x3, and a rectangle (size determined by you, by grabbing and stretching a corner)

They are also changeable on the machine itself by just selecting a size. Still not sure how they affect the target responce/id. Instructions state that Target ID can be affected by other targets or ground minerals so some times you need a more precise pattern etc.

Anyway was curious if anyone had had any experience with the different sizes.

Thanks

The different sizes just just help for the creation of disc patterns . While detecting, the frame size that happens to be "checked" in the machine does not have any bearing on target responses by the CTX. The disc patterns made with the various frame sizes are what help eliminate unwanted items.

Nickles fall in a range that if the accepted disc pattern is large you will also get a lot of aluminum tabs, etc. responding. By making the accepted disc area smaller, you can eliminate more junk targets from responding. Disc patterns can be made more precise by the use of different size frames while creating/editing the disc pattern....HH

So if I want to change the size and have any affect I have to set the frame size before I build the pattern?
If that is the case then for different situations using the same program I would have to build more programs just to have the different frames that you can quickly access.

Have you used any of the different sizes and if so how did they affect the outcome?
I do appericate your time and info.
Thanks

If the frame size 1x1 is selected when you are creating a disc pattern, only 1 small square at a time, of the 1750 squares (50 x 35), will be selected for accepting or rejecting that particular square. So if the 2x2 frame size is selected, you will be accepting 4 squares at a time (2 across and 2 down).

I have used the different frame sizes when creating disc patterns. That is all the different frame sizes are for. When creating a disc pattern in the CTX, the frame size you select will allow you to select 1, 4, 9, or 25 squares at a time . Use whatever frame size is needed to help create/edit a disc pattern. The frame size selected does not have anything to do with the detecting process, only the creation of discrimination patterns. I have attached a screen shot from XChange2, it shows the result of making a selection using each of the frame size options that are available in the XC2 app. The XC2 app. does not have the 5x5 frame size, but instead has a rectangle (that can be made to whatever size you want it by dragging a corner), a 1x1, 2x2, & 3x3 selection. The different frame sizes allow faster editing and the creation of very narrow or odd shaped disc patterns.

Thanks C&R i finally got it. I am a little slow somtimes on some things. I think that the old light switch does not work as well as it did at one time.
Again thanks
