FP A Must Before Update?

I bought mine with 1.5. Lots of problems like 1 IDs at my park all over, just too noisy to enjoy using at the beach. Then I loaded 1.75. Noise reduced, 1 IDs reduced, pinpointing improved. But then I discovered the coin on edge issue. And I was having targets vanish and I’d dig 3” and there would be the coin (beach targets). I’m thinking this was the coin on edge problem. Now I tried the fw reset before 1.75 reload. Coin on edge issue much better. A small area in the coil center that there is a null but outside of that the coil picks it up. So I think the reason your pinpoint may be off is because you are centering one of the two outer lobes that pick up coins on edge in that swing orientation. To be honest I haven’t tried pinpoint on coins on edge...
I’d say to anyone with an Equinox to take a quarter and try it in all orientations under yor coil. There should be just a small area where it has trouble. If a bigger issue you need to try the fw reset and 1.75 reload until things get noticably better.

All of my "edge tests" using a quarter was no issue at all. Test a Franklin or Kennedy though.

Pinpointing for me actually degraded with 1.75. VDI numbers on high conductors went bozo for me on the half dollars as well.

My machine is upgraded to 1.75. So just for clarification, by doing a FP the machine will revert back to the original 1.5 ?

No. The 1.75 doesn’t seem to fully “take” for everyone. If you don’t like detection, EMI sensitivity, or pinpointing, try reloading the code again. You might want to try a firmware reset before you do - people are finding settings are not reset without doing this.
I think mine is now more sensitive to EMI. Just can’t win.

I updated both of mine, from 1.5 to 1.75, with no apparent issues; I'm also using 1.75 successfully as well. So not sure about the reset/preset thing that everyone is describing.

On the update screen you will see 3 little dots on the bottom right corner... click on those and you will see v1.5
