I don't have a clue what this is. It is made out of brass.

My guess is it's specialty key, the large end is for turning the key with your fingers and the small end for inserting into a lock mechanism.
Don't bet any money on my idea, just my gut feeling.

the only place it is broken is what you see in the picture. the broken tip kind of looks like if not broke it was a rounded point.

I was thinking a broken piece off a spur also.

Yes there was about a mile away as the crow flies. And I found a spencer bullet about 30 yards away a month ago.

I have seen this piece before, but I can't quite place it.

Some of you guys may be right. I just tried it on that small part in my upper back that itches and cannot reach with my fingers, and with this thing it gets it perfectly.

Actually now I can see where it could be a stirrup and no bends, just breaks.
actually on the other side where the down part from the strap slot should be it does clearly appear to be a break where the other down part was attached but now broken off with the bottom part. And the small size if complete would indicate a child's stirrup. Maybe we are getting close now. That would seem like it would make it a more rare find since I would guess there are fewer child's stirrups in use than stirrups for adults.

Yes, I was still leaning towards a broken spur. The shape and the form looked right anyway. Congrat's. That is a nice Save for sure.
