Found a 1918 Walking Liberty Half this afternoon

hi silveseeker!..i am NOT being critical about the cz-3d,but i am very curious!..doesn't it bother you to dig all the hi tone trash?..it would make me disinterested in a big hurry!

Yes jmaryt, It can be frustrating at times but I also try to size a taget too
which sometimes helps. But I don't mind digging the high tones as sometimes
I am rewarded with a nice find that some others miss! Like I've heard someone
say before, your digger is your best descriminator... I don't take it as being critical
as that is why were here on the forums, TO Help each other with our experiences!!!
Best of Luck and H Th'ing...

I DON'T hunt with it in enhanced because I don't have that patience! Salt works fine for me! I'm not one of those dig everything people. I would in the right site, but those are few and far between. I prefer to run it wide open and gear all the signals though, discrimination = loss of depth IMO and loss of info. The old coins I dig that are iron-coin bounce are a lot easier to hear as good when you hear all the signals. Either way, both detectors are great machines, you have to take the time to learn your particular unit, and that's the real secret.

If you use my technique of volume at 1 and max volume on good headphones you can clearly hear the difference between deep and shallow targets. A quick pinpoint and check of depth tells me whether to dig. Most pulltabs here are 4" or shallower. If I get a pulltab at 5" I'm digging! It's usually a nickel, but sometimes it's a wheatie. Same with zinc cents. At 4" or less, I don't dig. 4" plus, it's going to be an old wheatie or an Indian head 95% of the time.

It's not just one aspect of the signal. It's the pitch, tone and volume paired with what the meter says. The detector gives you a LOT of information. You have to train your brain to compute all that data correctly. If you trust the meter and hi-coin, you are leaving good items in the ground, guaranteed.

i agree in principal with every thing you said, however your description of how you use the cz-3d.i realize you HAVE the cz-3d,and do NOT have the cz-5,so it becomes something of a no brainer to use whatever mode you like, but unless i am missing some pertinent piece of information, the fact remains, you are always in salt mode, because of the trash, and WHERE you hunt,so my point is,why should anyone bother with the cz-3d when the cz -5 will do the job!..it seems the advanced mode is virtually worthless in just about ANY hunting environement, short of church grounds, researched old picnic groves, and maybe old private homes?

i would think that advanced mode would be nice to have IF you are hunting old picnic groves, and church grounds where the possibility of trash is more remote!
gotta tell ya being patient and sizing signals has it's merits, however with the abundance of metal trash in old/new public areas,we are literally at war with all the crap
and as i only have a certain amount of time to devout to the hobby, just can't justify the money for it!

may i add that i think one would be better served with the cz-5 or the terrific cz-70 with the 5" coil (hockey puck!) on board,so you can utilize it's notching abilities!

i agree!..ANY target that indicates "pull tab" at the 4" level or greater on ANY metered detector, don't hesitate!...dig it!..a VERY effective tool in trash laden areas!
