Five years ago I was living in this house I built in Alaska. The wood was mostly from mill lumber or "weathered" lumber from the building supply...

That is a beautiful home, Vernon.

Love that winter scene!

I'm sure your fond memories of living there will remain with you throughout your life.

Well, I been up here for the last twenty years, I have seen that house of yours...Don't ever recall a winter of minus 50...Did have a couple minus 30's....Never saw a moose gnaw bark off a birch but they will tear it right off an alder....Feeding moose at the back door is a BAD thing...no matter how cute it is...I been faced with a sow and three cubs...didn't need to shoot any of 'em....canoeing by myself is something I have done repeatedly, and know the wilderness pretty well...Winds of sixty plus that lasted a week or more and wind chills over minus 100! :surprised:

Alaskan stories....gotta love 'em! :goodnight:

Yeah, I know where it is. I worked for the census back in '99 and my area was all around Big Lake, Wasilla and Houston. Had to go back through all those little nooks and cranies full of the wierdos trying to escape civilization. 'Nam vets and such....Nothing quite like having to go up to someone who has a "No Tresspassing" sign with spent .223 casings hammered in all around the edge and try to have a conversation with them....They would calm down a bit when I said I was a vet also, but there were a bunch didn't want me there at all. It was scarry as hell a few times.

I live off of Vine about a mile from the Parks Hyway.
