Five years ago I was living in this house I built in Alaska. The wood was mostly from mill lumber or "weathered" lumber from the building supply...

We Lived in this house {as it grew} for 12 years. It was 60 miles north of Anchorage just outside the town of Wasilla AK. Sarah Palin was mayor of that small town then and I had been scratching out a life as a free lance artist for 30 years in Alaska. We fed starving moose by hand from the porch that were suffering from record snow fall and could not forage. They were forced the eat the bark off of birch trees because the snow was 6' deep at sea level. Bears had tried to get in the house while we were home!.. like I always said; " When you need a gun, you need it RIGHT NOW!" All 4 of my daughter where raised here until we moved. We heated with wood for many years ~ 18 cords a winter, cut and split by me. We didn't have electricity for the first 4 years, just a small generator, try starting one of those at 30 below! Later the gas company brought a natural gas pipe line in and we gladly hooked up to it! We have seen temperatures there to minis 52 degrees below zero and as high as 95 degrees and witnessed a temperatures change of 80 degrees in less than two hours!~ from minus 40 below to 40 above! I love Alaska, it was good to me, but Virginia is my home now, and it's been to to me too. This November marks 5 years here in Ol' Virginny.
