Just ordered a special edition from kelecoCo. The gold bugs are in stock and are ariving weekley.. Can't wait unit it comes so I can go find some gold:yo:

That's great news, I wonder how long the it will take for the pro version to be released to dealers, and what the differences will be.

Personally I am waiting for the G2 which I paid for back in April

It will probabley be something. I don't care really. I have never owned a detector befor, so Im looking forward to playing with it because living in nor-california and only 20 mintutes to the river is always cool. I just hope it will be worth the wait..

On the Kellyco web site, if you click on the Gold Bug and scroll down, it says:
" Details:

News Flash:
The new Fisher Gold Bug Special Edition will ship with the latest software upgrades for better performance.

Fisher 5 Year Warranty Fisher Labs is proud to introduce their newest offering the "GOLD BUG PRO". The engineers at Fisher have been busy designing one of the most sensitive new gold detectors to ever be offered by Fisher and at a very affordable price. Don't let its diminutive size fool you because it will find the smallest gold nuggets in highly mineralized soils! Let's face it, most dug nuggets at the shallower depths will be smaller in size for the most part and this is where this little gem will show its best sensitivity! It's small 5 inch DD search coil will effectively cancel out most ground conditions and the prospector can monitor the ground phase and ground mineralization. Computerized to give optimum results in all soils!

More than a Hot Gold Machine, the little Gold Bug Pro will make adjustments a snap with many user intuitive features. When you're not in the Gold fields simply change modes and your ready for coin shooting and even relic hunting. You can not find a deeper, easier to use light weight gold detector today for finding gold nuggets and don't worry the little Gold Bug will find the bigger nuggets too."

So where will the difference be? According to that quote from their site it is the Pro.

Kellyco are confusing things here, it is the Fisher Gold Bug Special Edition they are selling

The new Fisher Gold Bug Special Edition will be shipped with the latest software upgrades for better performance? true it has the latest software upgrades over the calbelas version

so it is going to have better audio

The pro version has not being released yet and neither has the G2, I think both these machines will be the same as far as software versions are concerned, only the G2 will come with the 11 inch DD search coil

I think the pro version and the G2 will come with additional software upgrades so they will work for a new coil that is being worked on

They sure need to change that ad then. I just cut and pasted it just the way it reads and they call it the "Gold Bug Pro" twice. It doesn't matter to me since I have had one on order with them since 5/3 and hope it will be shipped soon but, they are supposed to be one of the biggest and best in the business so you'd like to think they would get it right. They can only go by what their supplier was telling them for the ad on a product that had not even been released but if it really isn't the "Pro" (or equal to it) they should be retracting that ad or some buyers may want to trade for the actual "Pro" without additional cost when and if they come available just for the fact they can say this ad made them think that was what they were getting. Could become a real mess.

Totally agree with you there, the pro version will be more expensive, the special edition is the starter pack so to speak

The pro version has to be better to justify the higher price

Another forum member here posted that they had been using the 11" DD coil for an Omega 8000 on their Cabella's version Gold Bug with success. Recently I noticed he had the same coil posted for sale. I asked why and if he could tell us, that are getting a Gold bug, if he had decided not to use it, but have not gotten a reply. I know this may be a little off subject for this post but if users were thinking of buying the same coil for their Gold Bug they would find the info useful. I know I would like to know more before spending that much more on a coil that may not work for or possibly damage my new machine.

Yes i noticed that he was selling the 11 coil as well and thought it seemed a bit strange, my G2 will come with a 11" DD coil as standard so it should work ok

I am just getting very frustrated with the long wait for this machine I pre ordered and paid for it back in April and I am still waiting

...if it was me who you were wondering why i was selling my 11"DD. If it was the answer is quite simple. I am currently moving from Az back to NH...I am in my motorhome on the laptop right now. I decided I had run out of nooks and crannies in the MH to stuff stuff and since the Pro had not shown up I was going to sell it until the Pro was released.
I never sold it and now the pro is out....so I will keep it.
I have some much detector stuff even stuffing one more coil somewhere is a pain...:)

Yes it is you that I was talking about. You just explained why you didn't respond to why and I'm glad to hear from you because your posts are great on this subject. So the 11"DD does work fine with the Gold Bug SE? I'm waiting for mine to arrive from Kellyco before I start buying accessories for a detector I don't have yet but would like to keep up on your experiences with it while I'm waiting and even after that if you still are using yours.

The Se and the Cabellas versions are functionally similar with some tweaks to the SE....but that would not affect wether the 11"DD works or not. So...it will work the same...which was just fine.
I know they say that they will make a tuned coil for the Pro later this year...which is fine as it would match the frequ...but until then the current 11" works great. All I ever saw was about a 6 digit lower ground balance point verses the 5" stock. But no othe effect was noted.

Let me know if anyone gets the new SE gold bug. Please. I would like to know how it works. I don't really care about the 11 inch coil I think if the name on it don't say for gold bug SE don't buy it. Plain and simple those dealers are pro's at what they do. I think it will mess up the machaine. I just want to know when mine is coming. :starwars:

What do you do with em?

Oh well. I was once a newbie myself. Only I had a enough sense to listen to the fellas that actually knew stuff. Those that do have a much faster and easier time of it.

So....an old timer, with nothing to gain from it, from actually experience said the 11" DD coil works fine.

One of the most repected engineers in the business, who also happens to have made almost all the VLF gold detectors anybody uses today, also said it works fine.

Really isn't any more to say about it. It just becomes noise and folks tend to skip the noise.

Hopefully everyone will be getting their detectors soon. I'm going to have my F5 11"DD coil changed out to fit the GoldBug when I get one as I have full confidence it will work just dandy. But then again....I know stuff.

Hi Mike

Perhaps as you know your stuff you could tell us newbies what the difference will be between the Se and the Pro version ?

When will the pro version be available?

When will the Teknetics G2 be available?

I know the 11 inch greek series coil will work just fine on the SE but some people are not convinced

I have being a metal detectorist for over 30 years

by the way if your F5 11"DD is not a greek series coil then it will not work on the SE

for example the F-75 11"DD coil will not work as it is not a greek series coil

Came across arrogant didn't I. Don't usually do that but I was really tired of this. Sorry.

The only difference between the Special Edition and the Pro will be the price.
The Special Edition will be offered at 549 (buy price 499) with the 5" coil.
The Pro will be offered at 649 and you can specify which coil you want it to come with as standard (5" OR the 11")
Thats all. No software changes, no extra umph or anything else.

The detector turned out so good they priced it too cheap vs competing models. No bull. So since they have already advertised it at the lower price, they were forced to produce some at that price. Thus was born the Special Edition limited time offer. So if you want the good buy, you buy early rather than later cause they will not offer it at this price again.

The Teknetics G2 is a different story. They never advertised a 549 price on those so they don't have to do a limited edition buy for them. And since the G2 is more geared toward the relic and UK market, they switched the 5" coil out for the 11"DD as the stock coil. The G2 is maybe a month behind the Goldbug release.

The F5 and the Omega are closer than kissing cousins. The Omega coil can be outfitted to fit the F5 and the F5 coil can be outfitted to fit the Omega. Thus it will also operate fine with the new Gold Bug.

Hi Mike

I suppose your just fed up reading the same old questions.

Someone on a UK forum did point out it would be cheaper to buy the gold bug SE at $499 and then buy a 11 coil as an accessorie, this way you get
both coils for the price of the G2

I think as you say they priced it to cheap and realised there mistake

I am still quit happy to get a G2 as the small coil wont be much use to me I am more a relic searcher plus I like the pistol handle on the G2
over the S rod on the SE

I am hoping the G2 will be the new Hammered coin hover here in the UK

herd a whisper the G2 will be at dealers within a month

To: azsh07 and others,

I just received my Teknetics 11"DD Omega Coil from Kellyco today for my Gold Bug that I bought from Cabela's
(not the Special Edition or the Pro) and it works great. I concur with azsh07 about it's great depth and sensitivity.
This is just an air test using all-metal mode: Penny = 14", Nickel = 16", Quarter = 15", Half Dollar = 16".
.01 ounce (.3 grams) of gold at 7" depth. 1 grain of gold at 4" depth.
The 5" standard DD coil will do almost as well as the 11"DD Coil. Better discrimination with the 5" coil.
It's been raining here in North Idaho and I haven't had a chance to ground test the 11" Coil, since I just got it today.
So, hopefully, the Special Edition and the Pro will do better than my Cabela's unit.
