Fisher F70 10"x5" Elliptical DD Coil

Took the NEL Sharpshooter out for a test run this morning. I managed to locate 8 quarters, 8 dimes, 5 nickels and 18 pennies, some kind of gold jewelry wire, a large dollar sized token. What I found was that the Nel did not seem to have any more depth than the 11"DD, which would make sense as it is a smaller coil. It was very responsive and I found I could move it quickly and locking on to a target was solid. In that area it seems a little tighter than the 11DD but the 11DD is so good at pinpointing this is a small point as both are really good at isolating the target. What I was impressed with was the maneuverability. I was poking this coil in and out of bushes and long grass fence post lines with out a second thought. The area I hunted has been hit many times and after digging up a lot of trash to verify the VID reading with this coil, about the first hour of more I then got busy looking for the good stuff so most of what I found was in the last half of the hunt. The coil was steady in its ID. Except for one quarter, that gave an odd reading at about 4" (5" counting grass cut) -- I think it must have been turned up on edge, I had my tool right on it so I did not see which way it was facing but I was surprised it was a quarter. I did not find it to be superior to the 11" DD but, like I said, it is so maneuverable and has the feeling of being much lighter, but according to my scale it is only 1.5 oz lighter than the 11 DD, but, of course, I left the coil cover on the NEL, maybe another couple of oz. lighter without the cover. I think it would serve as a really good back up for the 11 DD especially when you search areas that are brushy, trees, and tight fits. I really like the coil and found no real problems with it -- but for one thing -- the 11"DD fits snug to the end of my stick, the Nel is really loose and for fear of breaking something while trying to make it tight on the shaft I found a rubber, hard foam (?) washer in my tool kit and slide that on and it snugged right up. Oh, yeah, my deepest target was a ringed pull tab at 6" and one of the nickels at that same depth. I also uncovered three of the mangiest, corroded pennies I had ever dug up, not sure how the 11 DD would have read these, but the NEL said penny all three around fence posts, different fence post, about 4" down. No, silver -- shucks

So to sum it up, a little slimmer coil with the same depth as the 11"DD. I can live with that.

Umrgolf2000, where is that new 5x10DD being sold?

shadowulf I would not say it has the same depth, I have found targets as deep as 9" with the 11"DD and have yet to find anything beyond a 6" depth with the NEL, of course, the 9" targets are rare in any case where I hunt. I also had a seizure of wishful thinking in recording my first finds, only 6 Quarter and 6 dimes, one 1925 wheat. Just correcting the record. This coil reads like the 11DD in identifying trash. This coil seems a lot lighter but really isn't that much, but on the end of the stick it sure seems crazy light and quick to use. I would definitely consider it over a 5" sniper coil. It locks on with a nice tight signal on targets in very trashy ground. I purposely went to a trashy area in the beginning and found only one dime and lots of tabs and foil. The ID seems pretty reliable, but if you go on signal only then be prepared to dig, dig, and dig -- same is true for the 11 DD. I like the coil and would buy it again.

umrgolf2000 for the last two months the promises of the 5x10DD for the F70/F75 have been ongoing but with not results or concrete answer -- hence, the reason I quit waiting and opted for the NEL 5.5x9.5 DD. Any coil that will work on the F75 will work on the F70, they are of the same family, the 5x10 DD from the Gold Bug will not work on the F70/F75 but will work on the F5. So far the release of the 5x10DD for the F70/F75 is still up in the air. One dealer even posted this coil on their site for sale at $159 plus $12.95 shipping and it turned out they did not have them in stock and did not know when they would get them in stock and so far, to date, no 5" x 10" DD for the F70/F75 -- only promises. As for me, I have moved on and so far I am pleased with the NEL 5.5 x 9.5 Sharpshooter. I started out wanting to get a 5" x 5" DD to add to my bag for those tight place and bush areas to search plus the extreme trash areas but was encouraged by a Fisher Rep to hold off and wait for the new 5" x 10" DD they were getting ready to release for the F70 and F75 -- so, I like others, waited and waited and waited, and ran to the false ads and still no coil. That is when one of the Guys on this forum pointed me to the T2 Forum where the guys there were using NEL Sharpshooters with some pretty good success on their T2, the with a little research I found two vendors offering the NEL for -- guess what? That's right, the F70/F75 and for the F2, imagine that. I received the coil yesterday, and this coil even has the F75 sticker (logo) on it and it works like a charm on my F70. The extra plus is it cost $120 with free shipping, a little more cost effective than the pricing on the Fisher coils. I am looking to rig a pig tail for my F2 -- it has the push pin connections, so if I can put a pig tail on it to convert to the screw in type I can then get a NEL sharpshooter for that machine and my wife will be happy which makes me happy. It seems the F2 only come in a screw on connection right now. I'm thinking a pig tail with a push on one end and a screw type on the other and I could then use either connection on the F2. We'll see. Peace, Dan

ah, thanks for letting me know.. guess I'm glad I didn't order the coils afterall

I'll call Gene sometime this weekend or early next week and let you all know what I hear about the 5x10's

That would be appreciated.
As much as I like the looks and build of the sharpshooter, my "old timer" side of me wants a closed coil for sweeping sagebrush.
I even have a couple lengths of heat shrink to add to the cable near the coil for some extra armor. I've been lucky with borrowed/rented equipment in the past. But you never know.

Hey, I texted Gene this morning and he said he will find out what's going on with the coils this coming week

Excellent!

Hey dbax,
Sorry I lost track of this threads subject.
I for one really appreciate your being up front with your findings on the NEL coil! Acquiring this type of special application

knarfj I'm thinking something went wrong with the design or the lot of first runs and rather than turn them out and end up with a lot of unhappy people they have delayed the release. I am guessing, of course, but there was a lot of chatter about this new coil for the F75/f70, and I was even told by a Fisher rep it was about to be released several weeks ago. I would wait because you know it has to be pretty close by now, and you have to know it will be premium quality. I am happy with the Nel Sharpshooter performance and it seems to be a good match for the F70, it works like I would expect the Fisher coil, tuned for the F70 to work. I even bought one for my F2. Just got it in the mail today and will be going out in the park tomorrow -- I think I will let my son-in-law try it out. I'm with you, when they do release the Fisher version of the Gold Bug 5x10, it should really be a humdinger, they are not taking this long for no reason. But, on the downside, all their false starts led me to the Nel Sharpshooter? I'm not looking back. Peace brother, Dan

last time out, about three days ago, found this nice little silver ring with the Sharpshooter, pinged solid dime, down about 4-5".

That's one sweet clauda.

One could say all the second guessing isn't getting anything positive accomplished. We'll see the new coil when it's actually ready, if there really is one in the works.

That's one nice ring you rescued! It sure would have made my day.:clapping:

Nice finds knarfJ --

I was just looking at the PDF brochure for the F75/F70 5x10 DD I downloaded from somewhere. So, if they already have a sales brochure out you would think the product must be close behind? Peace, Dan

Hey guys, this is what I heard from Gene

"Hey Jeff,

Mike told me we are shipping limited amounts of the coil. Get your order in, you may have to get in line or on a waiting list until we start shipping bigger quantities."

So it looks like they're starting to ship some of them out, but who knows how many

Sorry I couldn't be a bigger help, I will let you guys know if I hear anything new

Grrr, sounds like a limited release.
And I'm still waiting on some "mail money" before I can move on any coil. Hopefully, it will all come together.

"
"Limited amounts"?? Hum, not for me, I would never spring for a first, test??, release -- this sounds like something software makers do, getting the first responders to be their beta testers -- I do hope Fisher will get their act together, they have a fine product but the competition is pretty heavy and with the East being frozen in, meaning the wallets maybe frozen shut until the Spring Thaw -- I'm just saying -- I know all the foot dragging led me to jumping ship and picking up a third party coil but I don't see too many in the F70/75 class doing this so it seems when the bigger market from the mid-West to the East coast is ready to hunt they will find the F70/75 5" x10" DD available -- If it is anything comparable to the 5.5x9.5 Sharpshooter I have it will be a winner, and there is absolutely no reason to think is won't and stamped with the Fisher logo it should be really good. Peace, Dan

Mail money is in, but no coils. Ok, I'll just wait a little longer.
