Fisher F70 10"x5" Elliptical DD Coil

I have the itch for a 5 inch DD for my F70. I've heard nothing but good about them on either the F5 or the F70 when used as intended. But now I understand there is a 10"x 5" Elliptical DD Coil available for the F70! Any one using one?? Opinions??

TIA:detecting:

I looked at a couple of sites and there is nothing like that listed yet.

I really don't see the need for a coil that is just a little bit smaller than the 11"DD.

With the slimmer 5x10 profile, I could see it would just about do away with the need for the little 5" round. It would be almost as good in the trash, with better ground coverage and I would guess it would have a lot better depth than the little 5" round.

Just some thoughts,

Hi Knarfj, I had a link to the coil your talking about on the F75 coils thread but for some reason it was removed.

At the risk of being hung from the yardarm::unsure:

The online store I found, that carries the coil in question doesn't appear to be one of our sponsors. At least they don't list this forum on there store front. I would assume that could have something to do with it having been removed, if it was.

If interested feel free to PM me and I'll send you there store front address.

I'm interested in the 10x5 for use in the field. Solid cois do not tend to hang up or get tangled in brush or limbs. The do this at a slight cost of weight. If anything, I wish they would make a DD 6x4. But I suppose the 5" fills that notch.

OOPS! My apologizes for jumping the gun guys and gals!:blink:After digging a little further in to the above referenced site I found this disclaimer:

[size=medium]"Sorry folks, when I built this page I was told the F70 and F75 versions were available immediately.

I have since been told that they are not yet ready for shipment.

All orders for the F70 and F75 version will be preorders only. All other versions available!

Feel free to call me anytime for further clarification."

Thanks dbax! Looks like you were a little quicker on the send button than I was. :please:

The frustrating part is the NEL sharpshooter is about the same size, and can be ordered. I have yet to hear how it does on the F75/F70. But it seems to work well on the T2se. It is a "spider-style" coil, but I'm thinking some industrial shrinkwrap might help for what I want it for.

I have a hunting buddy that should have the NEL sharpshooter any day now for his F 75. I, too, am interested on how this coil performs. Have the LTD. I did have the Teknetics 5x10 DD for my Omega and it was a killer coil. HH jim tn

Shrink wrap? How about a coil cover? I saw this coil on ebay, but not for the F75/70, for a T2 and it was $145 and came with a cover -- only thing $25 shipping -- I don't buy anything with that kind of shipping cost. That's just me, of course. So, Jim tn, what was the total cost to your buddy for this coil for his F75? I am assuming it will also work on the F70. Thanks, Dan

The industrial shrinkwrap I'm refering to is about 15mils thick. And it would cover the openings in the coil to help stop hanging onto small branches and roots. You put the stuff over the coil and skidplate.

dbax, check the Teknetics forum for a recent post by tabman. He is using it on his T2 and bought it from a forum sponsor and has the name listed. Good price! HH jim tn

Gene Scullion told me just before thankgiving that the coil was a go and he was working on pricing and advertising for it. Im buying one with tax money. My dad has one on his Eurotek and it works great.

I hope it comes out soon. The soil and sagebrush call for a good closed coil. Even the stock 10" gets trapped once in awile.

The 10"x5" would be a welcomed addition. If its performance is anything like its Eurotech or GBP conterparts, it will be a tough choice between it and the 11" elliptical. The choice would be more a matter of need. If sweeping comaritively clear areas and needing good depth, the 11" would be the better choice. If sweeping brushy tangled rootbeds with a high chance of snagging, the closed 10x5 would probably be the better one.

I just have seen too much "vaporware" too many times. And it looks like there are options available if the 10x5 doesn't appear soon.

I would stay with the 5" DD coil since the 10" DD, 10" elliptical and the 11" DD coils are so close...

regarding Knarfj remark about being quicker in the trigger, send button, does not mean much -- it looks like my earlier post was taken down, probably too controversial. In a nut shell it appears the lone dealer offering this new F70 5x10 DD prematurely offered this coil for sale when Fisher had all of their sales promotional material in place had not yet released this new coil. Not a problem with me as the dealer apologized and retracted their offering. Why Fisher would leave one of their dealers hanging is beyond me. In the mean time I found the NEL Sharpshooter which is available and it looks lie NEL has one for the Fisher F2 also. I was pointed toward a dealer carrying them and for a much better price than what the Fisher coil will be priced. Where I hunt I have looked with hungry eyes at some places I just cannot squeeze my 11"DD into, considering this coil is about half the width it will be prefect for reaching some of those places. When I seal the deal I will let everyone know how it works out. Peace, Dan

Just ordered a NEL 5.5 x 9.5 DD Sharpshooter coil for my F70 -- it is in shipping and on the way, should have it by the end of the week, I hope. $122 -- free shipping -- from Colonial MD. Rich, the rep, was great, answered all my questions in a timely manner. I promise to post a review when I get it and take if for a spin -- If it works out I will be getting one for my F2 -- yes, NEL has one for the F2/F4 screw in connector, checking to see if they have a push in connector available, or if I can make a pig tail to convert the screw in to screw in. I have heard some good things about the F2 with the 11" DD coil so I think the NEL 5.5 x 9.5 might be a good combo to -- $101 for the F2 coil. If anyone has ever converted a push connecter to a screw in or made such a pig tail for an F2 I would love to hear about it, Peace, Dan

Please let us know how the sharpshooter performs.
If its anything like tabman's T2 coil, it might never come off your machine.

Received the new NEL 5.5x9.5 DD with coil cover and extra mount bolt. I had to insert a rubber washer, 1/8" thickness to mount as I could not screw the bold down enough to keep the coil from flopping about.
The quality of the coil appears to be top of the line. The quick air testing I did indicates it is very similar to the 11" DD. This coil is about 2/.3 the size of the 11" DD, it is the narrow foot print I am after, like the width of a 5" DD sniper coil but with greater depth. The ID on the VID appears to be the same as the 11"DD, the dime rocks 68-74, quarter is pretty firm at 81-84 and the penny 58-68. The copper penny reads like a dime most of the time, while the clad bounces in and out the 50 and 60 ranges. Ordered this coil and got it in three days, really quick. I will be heading out tomorrow for a field test. I have some brushy fence lines to search. If this coil works out I will be putting one on my F2, my wife inherited this F2 when I got the F70. Why the interest in this fence line? See pic. I found this with the 11DD by holding it at an angle to get in tight to the post but losing 3 or 4" doing this, but it did produce what you see below.
