Fisher F4 vs Discovery 3300

Ok these are the questions I posed to Fisher. I will post back with there reply.

"I own a Fisher F4 and had some questions about when to ground balance.

The manual says to GB in Auto Tune mode. Once I balance the unit can I then switch to any other mode, like Disc "all metal" or Disc mode for hunting?

If I want to Hunt In Auto Tune

Ok here is what they said.
After ground-balancing in AutoTune mode, the setting carries over into
all other modes. The same knob setting remains current even if the
detector is powered off and back on again. We do however, recommend
checking and, if necessary, readjusting the GB setting each time you use
the detector, as the knob may have been bumped. Ground conditions also
change from area to area, so periodically checking the GB setting in
autotune will guarantee optimal calibration at all times.

I emailed Fisher and have not gotten a reply. But from your post it would seem that the GB adjustment works in the disc mode. Why would they not write that into the manual?

I for one have always had difficulties with ground balancing. I think it's more "me" than the machine. I had a BH 3300 which I experimented ground balancing with but never completely satisfied. However on dry sand and in park dirt I've had great success.

Now with my F4 I am also successful but still not really using the ground balancing. I am going out this afternoon and will try to use as per Fisher's instructions. Got a potentially old spot and see what happens. One thing is my eagerness "to go out and FIND" it prevents me from experimenting. AND I guess maybe with good ground balancing I could find even more and better?
