Fisher F-75 LTD /// Minelab Question

Elton, I haven't really done depth comparisons between the two, I used to go to my buddys place when ever he or I got a new detector; to do "air" tests...
We went to a lot of trouble designing gizmos to aid in the tests, he even made a device to swing a target back and forth so that we could just slide the coil
closer, and farther from the target as we observed the distance in inches on a sheet of cardboard below the coil...

Personally if a detector can sound off to a coin at around 8" or so I'm quite happy with it.
I figure that digging a hole any deeper in a park will get me hunted off that turf, and I surely don't want that !!!

Here in where I hunt I find most of my stuff from the surface, down to about the deepest grass roots level.
The beach is probably where more depth would be an advantage, especially for the old keepers, but I don't get to the beach so often.

Usually when I see posts deleted on various forums it seems justified to me.

Occasionally I see posts removed from certain forums in a way that I may personally think is a little heavy-handed. But then I remind myself that these forums are not a democracy.

They are privately owned and all are sponsored by dealers and manufacturers.

And without our many fine sponsors, there would be no Find's Treasure Forums.

Yes, some moderators allow more leeway than others. And I would imagine some manufacturers are more open to constructive criticism than others.

But the sponsors pay to have the say. If you can't accept that premise, you're going to be an unhappy camper here.

No manufacturer wants to see their products in an unfavorable light on the forum they pay to sponsor.

And this being the biggest detecting forum, it goes without saying that the opinions and reviews posted here do influence sales. Probably more than most of us realize.

I understand what you were looking for, Elton. I understand you just wanted experience based answers and didn't want to "start anything". Got it the first time around. I even answered you when you posted it over here. Did you see that? I'm simply of the mind that says a brand model specific forum (again, based strictly on observations and past Admin/Moderator "actions") is probably not the place to open up a thread that begs comparisons between the "home" detector and a totally different brand/model unit regardless of the poster's intentions or personal need because it will at the minimum lead to comparisons which in turn lead to deletions or a moving of the original to it's "correct" place just like this one did. Doesn't the fact that your original post was moved from the F Series to this forum speak for itself and tells you that I'm not just talking out my posterior and imagining this "norm"? I know how long you've been around these forums and I thought you'd seen enough to know how this prompted multi-brand comparison stuff usually works out on a brand specific forum. I was wrong...again. I'm done with this one.

I traded my F-75 LTD for a Safari. To me in my soil conditions, the Minelabs both the Safari and the Xterra 705 Win hands down over the Fisher...............MO

Sorry your done with this post. I was looking forward to your response once the post was moved.

I would be very interested in your experience. If you have used the Minelab and then the F75 LTD.

IE: Your experience on trash sites
Depth of coins for each on average for each machine
EMI
Silver to clad ratio on an average detecting site ( Parks)

Just a general opinion from your point of view.

Posted below is why I asked again your thoughts. Brad your a nice guy and very knowledgeable.... I read, and respect your posts all the time.
Think about it, and if you have a mind change....

Wouldn't this post be a better fit on the general metal detecting forum?

You originally posted this over at the F series forum at which point I asked if it wouldn't be a better fit here and would reply then if done. You replied to me and said you'd also post it here, and you did, at which point I answered as I said I would. The post you actually made over here is the one I added to. THIS particular thread is the one that was redirected to here by the F-Series forum Admin. You can scroll down to see my answer (note the time stamp)or if you want the quick and easy........http://www.findmall.com/read.php?18,1117335,1117380#msg-1117380

This isn't an answer to the question you asked but it is in the ballpark I think.

I have both an E-TRAC and an F75 LTD and I had an original F75.

I would never consider choosing the LTD over the ET. If I could only keep one there would be no hard decision to make I would keep the ET. I loved the original F75 and only sold it because a friend of mine loved it soooo much, besides I have a T2. So I jumped on the LTD when it came out. My buddy has one too and he is not happy with it. He took it to the hunt at Ft. Donelson and could not use it at all, he said it was totally unstable and last year he used his original F75 with no problem (he may have a faulty unit, we are going to get together soon and compare mine with his).

So, I have not warmed up to the LTD. There has been at least one park in Atlanta where I could not use it. I used the V3 there with no problems.

Then again... I took the LTD up on the backside of Brushy Mountain and was able to use it with the small coil with the sensitivity on 99 and the disc on 0 and... it was so stable I had to wave my digger in front from time to time to be sure that it was working because it was so quiet. There are high tension lines about 100 yds from the spot and underground utilities maybe 20' from where I was hunting. I couldn't get within 10' of the utilities, I could hunt on the gravel road that the power company uses to service the high tension lines with no problem... I didn't find any relics but I did dig several old shotgun brass', so I know it was working well... could have been buttons you know.

I don't know why I have trouble in some places and in other places where I obviously should have trouble, I have none.

I need to get to a place that hasn't been pounded to death before I can form a good opinion about the LTD...

The E-TRAC on the other hand is just a marvel. It is so simple to use and picks those masked and iffy targets out like nothing i've ever seen and it is comfortable. I use it in ferrous/2 tone and it is a lot like a super stable F75 set in 2F. I rely on the conductive numbers and dig if the ferrous number is within a range that I think may be good. The "smartscreen" or crosshairs are useless on the ET since they straightened and expanded the conductive line. I also use 2 tones because it hardly falses at all in ferrous/2 tone. It is a very good machine and is easy to use. If the LTD turns out to have more depth than the ET or the V3 it will be a keeper, if not... i'll probably sell it because the ET is easier to use and it is very comfortable even though it is heavier. The V3 gives me so much information about the target, is tweakable to almost and site or target, and is just a pleasure to use.

Right now if I got an opportunity to do a limited hunt at a good site I would grab the E-TRAC with no regrets. It is fast and it is stable and, even with my bad back, I find I can swing it all day. Being able to reach down and tweak the length of the shaft is a big plus for extending your hunting time. My second choice for a relic rich site with a limited time to hunt would be a Tejon with a 5.5 HOT coil, third would be the T2, fourth would be the F75 LTD, fifth would be the SovereignGT (chest mounted in AM pinpoint) or the V3... for leisurely hunting in a park or yard I would take the ET or the V3, especially if I could hunt it again. I like to hunt sites with multiple machines and there are some sites where the Tejon will outshine all the others, (sites with lots of larger iron).

Wow, I didn't mean to ramble on like that but there it is.

I agree with all what you said. I personally think the E-trac is HARD to beat. I have tried the ltd and the ET worked better for me ,especially when comparing a signal before it was ever dug..... Target ID on the two did not compare....Also audio signal was better on the ET. These comparisons were made with targets in the ground and I did not know what they were until I dug them up.. This happened more than once with the detectors. thanks

Elton I have an etrac and an F75(not the LTD) and they are both great detectors. If I had to choose between the two and could only have one of them it would be the etrac. one thing about the etrac is you dont have to ground balance it to get maximum performance/depth.

Oh Elton.... you should've learned from my posts on the Fisher forum that you can't do this. I've always been of the mind that "bashing" would be "that's a piece of crap worthless detector" - not, "it's prone to too much interference in the city." I'm confident the ONLY way you'll get an decent answer on the LTD is by renting one (which is tongue-in-cheek for buying one for $1400 and selling it for $900 because it doesn't fill your needs). Good luck man!
