fisher cz21 users do you have the 8"or 10"coil. those that have the 10"coil how hard is it pin point with?dealer told me to get 8"coil because 10" is to hard to pin point with.i though the cz21 user's here could let me know what they think. thanks for any replys.

Fritz, I chose the 8". I am also of the 'opinion' that it doesn't go quite as deep as the 10" but I don't know that for fact. I got the 8" because I dive. I have used the larger coils and they are harder to pinpoint with if you dig a narrow deeper hole to get to the targer. The large coil just won't fit into the hole to recheck for the target and air/water testing, so to speak, with 6" of water before you get to the substrate, will cause the target to disappear with a large coil. Being able to slide the smaller coil inside that hole area eliminates some of that problem.

The more current or surf action the harder it is to manage a coil that has a larger surface area. For some that is an issue and they like smaller. Others have adapted to it and to them it is a non issue. You have to conclude which to get depending on the condition in which you will hunt.

I would make my decision based upon which I can hunt most effectively with. Another inch of depth doesn't count for much if you are covering smaller areas wresting the coil, and are missing targets because you can't get the coil near the target after the first dig attempt. It'd be nice if you could find somebody who has a water detector and swing it for awhile and give it a test. jim

I've got an 8 inch on my CZ20. With the thick profile on the Fisher coils, I'm sticking with the 8 inch.

On my CZ6a, in use mid-calf deep in the water, when I tried a 10 inch, the water resistance on the coil was a lot more than on the 8 inch. I got rid of the 10 inch coil when I got a Sun Ray FZ-12. That 12 inch is a much thinner coil and drags less in the water than even the 8 inch Fisher coil. A shame the FZ-12 isn't made any more!
Cheers,
