fisher 1270 problem...

Hi folks, i bought a 1270 a few years ago. It was aused machine and my prob is when iam in the field the machine do a beep on every sweep end - you going crazy:rage:
Itried out different sense settings but always the same prob. In the past i used the 1236, the cz5 and the 1235 and they had not this problem.
My question is is this a normal "gimmick" of the 1270 or perhaps mine is defect?
i would be glad to get answer from other users...
Best regards Hubert from Germany

sounds like you may have a coil connection problem, try disconnecting and rewraping the wire, Of coarse if it is where the wire goes in the coil ths won't help, would be good if you have a buddy with a coil you could try on your machine.hope this helps

thanks williwood, i think its not a connection prob, does your 1270 working without these falsings? I know from the cz and 1235/36 that they are very stable and quiet. I think about to buy me a new 1270 if the stability is the same like from the other fisher machines...
In Germany i dont know other 1270 users so i have no info about the "normal" working of this machine...
Regards Hubert

Your problem I have encourted on my CZ-6A-definitely a loop problem

Hi,, My 1270 Seems To Make The Beeps On The End Of Each Sweep Also..It's Just Like You Hit A Target But When You Check It There's Nothing There!! There's Probably Nothing Wrong With It. I Just Figure It's The Nature Of The Beast.. If You Figure It Out Let Me Know Also If Anyone Has A Schematic Or Any Mods & Misc Info For The 1270 They Would Like To Share I Would Appreciate A P.M. .. I Wonder If The Fisher Company Could Answer That Question Via E-mail??? Thanks

Hi Jimmy, exactly the same prob, i asked a local dealer and he said this is prob with the coil - some of this machines have this prob and some not, and with some the problem comes after a while of use...very bad to the Fishers quality!
My Dealer says if i buy a new one he changes the coil if there are any problems.Another possibility is to test a coil from the other 1200 series cause they are changeable - you tried this? Here in Germany it is not so easy to find someone who use the 1270 or other 1200 so it is hard for me to change coils for a test. You have the prob with the 8" or 10,5" coil?

Hi,,I Have Always Used Another Brand Of Metal Detector And It Never Had This Problem. I Just Got My 1270 And Only Ran This Machine A Couple Of Minutes But I Noticed This Problem Right Away. I Tried The 5" Coil With The Same Results. My Hands Are Tied Right Now For Any More Testing Because Of A Foot Of Snow. I'm Not Buying The Bad Coil Theory! I Would Say Try Slowing Down Your Sweep Speed And Lowering The Sensitivity And See What Happens.. Thanks

Hi, i tried out witth disc 6 and sens down to 2 and always the same! Ok i can slower the sweepspeed but as slow as the machine it needs i start to sleep while hunting - but i think we are the only 1270 users in the forum with this problem...i dont know what to do buy this machine or not? they are to less meanings to thos machine here. In Germany there is nobody really competend here.Perhaps the 1266 would be better, i know that he has not this problems, but the 1266 is not as sensitve on small old coins as the 1270.This is a really difficult choose for me...
Regards

Hi, One thing you might try is changing the way the wire is routed up the shaft(garrett 250 users found out about this on thiers, heard they are gaining depth this way)Try going up the shaft in a line for 6-10" then start tight wraps, use electric tape or zip ties to keep the cord snug aginst the shaft, sometimes even the slightest cord movement shows up, such as at the end of a sweep, things in motion stay in motion, might help, might not, but worth a try.Mark

Hi,,The Cable Thing Might Be A Plan!! I'm Snowed In And Unable To Test Mine. So I Will Kick Back And Wait For A Possible Solution To This Very Real And Annoying Problem!! Thanks

If this was stated in one of the other replies, I appologize. Particularly with a used detector, you can't be sure the pre-set ground balance in the discriminate mode is correct. And even if it's the original setting, you can't be sure it's not off quite a bit for the areas you're getting all this falsing or interference. If you hunt in all metal and manually ground balance, do you get good stable performance?

is the possibility of conductive sand/dirt in between the coil and cover if you have one. I know the Fisher coil covers are legendary for tight fits, but I've seen that stuff turn up in several of my Fisher (and all others) rigs.

with the sand between coil and cover its an idea...perhaps i can test a new one at a dealer and then i will think again what to buy.
Thanks for answer and good idea

Hi,,I Wrote The Fisher Company I Am Waiting For A Reply!! I Will Post The Answer If And When They Reply......Thanks

Hi,,I Got A Fairly Quick And Courteous Answer To The Problem With The Fisher 1270. This Is Direct From The Fisherlab Company With The Option To Call Them If I Had Anymore Questions. If Their Answer Did Not Resolve The Problem They Said I Should Call Them Direct And Talk With Them . Well I'm Still Snowed In So I Will Not Be Doing Any Testing For A While. So Here Is Their Reply!!
(1) Check how the coil is being swung. If the coil is being lifted off the ground at the end of the sweeps and doesn't stay parallel to the ground the unit will sound off. This is explained in the operators manual pages 10 & 11.

(2) Check the ground balance described in pages 7 & 8 under ALL METAL MODE of the operators manual.

Hi, nice that the fisher team answers so fast! If i sweep exactly parallel to the ground i think it will work well...but in the Hills and woods i dont have the possibility to do so. So i think its easily not the right machine for me...
Ihope the 1266 have not the same character - the CZs and 1235/36 work well no matter you care about your sweep or not.
Happy hunting to all - we have snow 30cm high, what a drag!
Regards Hubert
