Fisher 1236X2 Air Test with both 5 and 8 inch coils.

Bench test sensitivity maxed Timber Wolf head phones used.Disc at 8 on all coins except nickles which was at a 5 setting. These are signals maxed that I would dig the target.

Most hunter's can't stand the clicks and pops.Very good unit but doesn't have the bells and whistles.Fisher advertises this unit for the beginner, which I disagree only a seasoned hunter can appreciate the performance of the 1236.The small five inch coil separates very well and hits hard on small dimes.

11.5" on a dime, is super in anyones book. In fact, overall it's super no mater how you look at it. :)

With that kind of performance the 1236-X2 doesn't take the back seat to anything.

Bill,I think its a great unit but not for everyone.American Axle has a labor problem and has most of the GM truck plants down in the US,which Pontiac Asm where I work was one of the first to stop production.Since I'm rambling my wife called from work and we met at a cinema to see the movie "No Country For Old Men" the movie was great.

Ron,

On your 1236 at what sens setting does the "threshold sound" kick in? How loud is it at max sens?
On both 1236X2's I owned in the past I usually ran the sensitivity just above 9 which allowed the faint signals to break thru easily. They are highly underated machines and at a price of $319.00 a great bargain.

Thanks
Tom

Thats impressive....

On my 1236X2 with head phones the threshold can be heard at 9 on the sensitivity and it doesn't get much louder when dialed to ten.Now without head phones I can just barely hear the threshold dialed to 10.

As you know this unit is hard to cherry pick with because the hunter will loose nickles. If you could have a notch setup on this unit Fisher could make some money.Maybe this could be an after market mod, this sure would put this unit way ahead of any unit in the 1200 series with this modification.

The 1266X 15 inches plus on the pennies, dimes and quarters. The war nickle was lame only 13 inches plus. The five inch sniper coil not as much depth 11 plus inches on pennies and dimes.

Tinfoil,I hope this helps with a five inch coil and sensitivity maxed nickles will disc out at about 6.5 zinc penny about 7.25 estimated.Clad coins and copper penny good with disc maxed at 10.

The setting was around disc 4 sensitivity maxed,The Timber Wolf head phones weren't that loud with this unit.I'm very impressed at this point with the 1266x I'll have to see what it will do in the field at my favorite sites.

Hey Mr Bill,You could make lot's and lot's of money if you could...

I have always had an interest in the 1236x2 but never got one. I have always wondered how much better it would perform and how much more depth it would get in certain types of soils and changing ground conditions if it had a manual ground balance. I do know from the many posts I have read on it though is that it does quite well seeing through the iron to sniff out the good targets. And with the overall performance that it has the price is quite reasonable.

for the first time using this machine, i was going as deep as the F-75 was, just not getting all the info he was getting on the meter. My meters between my ears were almost right when comparing signals. I was using the 8" coil, I hate to see what it will do with a 10" coil on it. It's a pretty deep machine, but it does chirp.

Hi Bill,

The 1236x2 has a very low discrimination range in regular disc mode and when switched to iron disc it knocks out most of the smaller iron targets. I live in northern Delaware and the 1236x2 works great and does pretty good not great at salt beaches. I've used the silencer switch and as long as your in low regular disc your not missing much as it just helps with some of the pops and pings of the sensitive cirquit. The 1236x2 is a very underated or misunderstood detector as far capabilities in my opinion. HH Bill

I have a 1236x and 1266x both are great units. The 1236 isn't as deep but breaks down better for a backpack and can be hip mounted. The trigger pinpoint on the 1266 is more convenient, but the 1236 has an oversize pinpoint button and vco pinpointing much like a CZ.The 1266 battery system is better. Both units have great balance. Both of these are keepers. My 1236X with the sensitivity at max is very deep I recovered silver dimes 6 plus inches with a five inch coil in areas masked with trash. The 1266X with the dual disc you can notch some trash.I'm planning a search at an old foundation this spring.Only one way to get there a one hour ride on horseback.Guess which unit will be in my backpack?
