First Week With Vision

Ron M

New member
The first week with the vision has been a fun one. I have hunted about five full days and have found over 300 coins. I now have 31 wheaties,1 barber quarter, 1 silver quarter, 2 silver dimes, 1 mercury dime, 1 barber dime, 1 indian head penny, 1 V nickle. The Hopalong Badge and the mini silver fork were two of my most interesting finds. The last time i was out i dug 2 different wheat pennys at 6 to 7 inches and a mercury dime at 4 inches that were heavily masked by old nails and steel wire. The pennys were actually on top of the nails and wire. That was kind of nice to make those finds as it increased my confidence in the detector. The deepest coins i have found so far have been at 8 to 9 inches with good tone and vdi readings. I will say i have put the 5.3 coil on my vision off of my dfx and it has helped in the very trashy areas for pinpointing. The merc and masked wheats were found with the small coil. I cant wait to get back out but i dont think it will be for awhile because were getting more snow about 5" since last night. Good luck everyone and HH.
Ron.

Ron, Did you send the photos and story to White's?

Jerry

Not yet Jerry i wanted to send it last friday but had to go out of town for a couple days. I wanted to get some pictures outside today with the detector and my finds to send it to whites but we now have 5" of snow on the ground. I might just take the pictures in the house if the snow isnt gone in a couple days. I just thought it would look better outside.

Thanks Ron for this informative update on your progress with the Vision. The information you table here certainly provides insight to me on how this unit is performing in your local. I would surmise the bottom line here is that you are delighted with the results to date. I would be very pleased, especially with the coins found over trashy spots.

Six silver coin finds in addition to the relics, notably the fork and Hopalong badge, represent quite a successful first week with this unit. Let's hope the snow will melt quickly, enabling you to continue with this series of posts (we hope). :)

No doubt I will have some questions, but for now it's a pleasure to monitor your feedback. We'll fire a few at you after you've had some time to become more familiar with your new Vision. Good luck and HH,

Jim Hemmingway.

Congrats on your first week with the Vision Ron. Looks like you guys are having a great time. Thank you again for your offer to help me out, I should have a new Vision here hopefully by the end of this week. I can't wait . lol..

It was 5 days of hard hunting from daylight to dark and a couple days i was out after dark. That lighted color screen is going to make for some great night time hunting this summer. And no i didnt eat much, stopped long enough to eat a sandwich and drink a bottle of water. There are not enough hours in a day.

Ron, Check the last program on your Vision---"SM" = Snow Melt.. LOL

Jerry

Im going to try that one in the morning with the tx boost on but i think i will need a couple extra batteries.

Looks like you have 2 washington quarters between your mercs and your barber quarter. Are you sure you only found 1 silver washington :) ? ?

Congrats on a super week with the Vision!

Yea the lighted screen is sweet. even the buttons glow. The wireless head phones are also really sweet did not know how much of a pain in the butt that wire really was until it was gone. Cant wait until the warm summer and late night walks on the beach should be great.

The one silver washington was found with my dfx, and shouldnt be in the piucture. I was using it to do some tests and adjust some programs.

When you get a new machine you go out and hunt and learn and post the finds. These machines have been in the hands of a few for a while yet no finds .I know you want to read the manual but there is factory pre sets so you can hunt out of the box.Not saying any bad but could someone follow Ron M lead and post some finds thanks.Lot of talk on forum but no show.No i don't have one but i will post picks of my finds with other detectors.Would like to have one so any one who feels they just want to sit and looks at there send it to me and i will give it a run Thanks again. Please no one get upset i just like to look at pictures.

Fred, I went out last night with my vision for almost two hours. I only got ONE Memorial to show for it... I think it was even a Zincoln! So you won't see me posting that. I was hunting a spot that my Dad and I hit earlier this year with my E-Trac and his DFX, where we pulled about 11 or 12 silver and lots of wheaties out of in about a week. I was going back there to see if I could find a silver. My Dad said he would buy a Vision if I could. Well, after two hours all I had was about 5 rusty screw tops, some aluminum and the penny. I think it could be hunted out... well, I thought so. Right at the end I said screw this, I'm going to figure something out. I dug a nice hole and buried a new quarter at 8". When I ran the Vision over it in Coins mode, 3 frequencies, I could not hear a thing. Because I knew I already had the detector sensitivity set pretty high, I went right for the frequency controls and switched it to 2.5kHz. Bam! Solid 83 VDI. The quarter was singing loud and clear. I also tried it in Deep Silver mode and it was getting it, but honestly Coins on 2.5kHz was better. A lot of the silver we pulled out of there was down around 6". So even though I thought it might be cleaned out... I'm going to go back and try again for the really deep ones, if there are any of those. This will be an ongoing test because even though the area is small, you know how it goes for coverage.. it takes awhile to grid it out. I really also need to take my Vision to a place where I know there are going to be some coins... and build some confidence. All of the parks around my house are picked clean... mainly by my Dad and I. One last comment... the Vision is still hurting my lower left back muscles... just after 1 hour of swinging I started feeling it. It seems balanced, but for some reason it's just pulling on different muscles in my back. It's the weirdest thing! I'm going to have to start using my swingy thingy with it. I'm sure it's just me... I've never heard of anyone else with this problem.
