Well I guess there's no reason this detector should start out any better than the others. The thresh-hold was way to loud and couldn't figure out how to reset.(found it in the manual when I got home)The trace thing didn't seem to work.I think it was but I'm not understanding very well. Didn't go over any barber, seated or gold. The balance was wonder-full.And weight was not an issue.I know it will change, but old minds take awhile to learn.Soooooo It won't be long and the tune will change. And I'll have pictures to prove it. Grumpy :please:

What are you doing?, there is only suppose to be one CTX in eastern IA....MIne.

Grumpy...don't feel bad, I'm having trouble getting the hang of it too...one wheatie and about a hundred rusty nails.

I've heard about the problem with iron. I didn't have that on my E-Trac.

What did target trace say? (I mean was it partly responsible?)

Are you guys running the sensitivity hot and are you also running the new ferrous coin setting? Might be worth comparing that setting with trash density high and see if it changes anything.

you will settle in after some time , and be making those great finds,

I set target trace On and ferrous/coi mode, it showed good target and trash/iron...all i found was a dozen rusty nails, I think it will take a while to figure this out.

Joe

I dig a few rusty nails but I have a pretty good idea what I'm digging when I do, I guess that I'm just hoping that I'm wrong when I do dig. Nails will often sound good in one direction only, by moving 90 degrees, you will often lose the signal, and another give-a-way is when the target pinpoints off to the side of where you expect, it will certainly be a nail or object with a pointy end. The eddy currents like to accumulate off of the pointed end of a nail in search mode but pinpoints right on the money. There is often broken audio even so slightly at times with nails. Practice, practice, practice and you will get pretty good at hearing them.

Grumpy-----I think we can finger this thing out---hang in there!!!----I'm sure I'll be just like you starting out with it when I get mine Friday---but we'll "get 'er down"! ;)--------Del

Joe - It was what I was hoping I would hear. Gordon (mod) on the other forum said this:

Target trace is a good thing in most circumstances.... if you use target trace with ferrous-coin, you will see any iron falsing in a spot above (slightly left) of the iron trace at the bottom. If you get a second trace away from where you are seeing the false one... dig!

To start with this may be confusing... so it might be better to turn off ferrous-coin, which can exasperate false traces in some circumstances.

I think ferrous coin might be tricky at first is all, at least with target trace on.

I miss the sun ray probe that is on my etrac, every plug I cut had many targets, the place is loaded with rusty nails, tacks, bent nails, etc... I will keep at it, got to dig the junk for a while so I can figure out whats going on.
