First time out with my new Tejon

Yet another Tejon newbie here.

I wasn't going to make the plunge but I got a great buy on a "used" Tejon that had never been used in the field and came with an extra 5.75 DD coil.

I liked my DeLeon but found I was using my F5 most of the time so I decided to kick the D to the curb and get the Tejon.

Had a chance to use it for the first time Saturday for about 5 hours at a couple different homesites, one built around the turn of the century and one in 1951.

A 1947-D quarter, a couple wheaties and an old bus token were the best finds.

I spent a lot of time digging trash by design as I start to learn what this machine is telling me.

I've owned and used a Tesoro Cibola, DeLeon and Compadre and think they are all good machines.

But my impression of the Tejon is that it is by far hotter than any of the others.

In the short time I've used it with the little 5.75 coil I'm amazed at what this machine was doing.

I figured out that high sensitivity isn't necessary for good depth, but I could run the sens high with the small coil. With the small coil on, the machine started to get unstable at about 10 in the areas I was at.

I think a big part of the reason a lot of people think that it's chatty is that even with the discrimination above iron it chirps and gives what best can be described as a broken sound at iron.

As I understand it, that is by design so good targets by the iron aren't rejected.

I really dont know why people look at the "so called chatty nature of the Tejon "as being a " negative " when in fact I find it the opposite alerting to the presence of iron and the possibilty of masking , theres no mistaking the bleeps bips an cherps as anything other than undesirable targets below your disc setting , at least thats how I find it !

...in fact, I feel my MXT is more chatty than the Tejon is. The MXT throws out all kinds of signals and half the time it becomes really confusing to figure out whether to dig or not to dig. Not so with the Tejon - I know immediately if I've got a good signal or not. The Tejon is very simple to use and simple to interpret....at least in my opinion.

I thought the chatty was a good thing knowing the Tejon can hit well on small deep targets with sensitivity. It's music to my ears hearing all well.
