First Run with My New Excalibur

I started off putting the ring in the home made electrolysis tank I put together. After the tanish was soft / slimy, I finished cleaning it with metal polish.

I dry sanded the beach with my SE this evening while the crowd was not present. Call me "gun shy" but I wanted to see what was going on with the read out where the Excal went crazy and I wanted see the read outs during the dry hunt. There definitely is a lot of something in the ground where the Excal went nuts. It's something big and deep because I dug past the sand into clay and rock but still didn't hit it.

Anyway, I came back with 84 cents in change. I detected in knee deep water all the way back to the car. I had two 00 / 00 to 09s and thought I had gold. No such luck. I'm looking for an XL wetsuit so my body doesn't go into shock in that cold water. Then I'll really get in and hunt it good with the Excal.

Mike have you happened to read cjc's new Excal book yet? I know it may seem terribly unorthodox and perhaps my explanation would not do it justice. It would be money well spent if you have not read the book. Everytime I think I've got the Excal mastered and there is nothing more to know, I get humbled. Read it, try it and if it stinks lemme know. I think you will like it.
In silent, which is just a hair below barely audible, there is no noise distraction of the humm going up and down. When I go over a target, I know it because the tone is there. Then I decide about the signal. Believe me, if you go over a target, you WILL know it, even without audible Threshold.

Oh, I fully believe that you can hunt with no threshold and still hear a target. But to me, the point of the threshold is that when you have a NEAR MISS of a target, like the ring you didn't quite go over but came close to...or a DEEP one, or a chain...something silent search machines would MISS, the brief break in the threshold will let you know you almost hit something. So you go take a closer look and bam...good target.

Without the threshold I think you will miss more. Which is why I never want to not hear my threshold. Same reason I hunt with a light threshold on my Explorer SE. I think the threshold is what makes the Minelabs so killer at the beach and on the deeper targets. If one is bothered by the sound, turn it down and run it LOW...but NO THRESHOLD? Not for me, I don't think. But it's obviously working for you and that's the ultimate decider. I will give the method a try next time out but I will probably switch back and forth from light threshold to no threshold and test it on a number of faint targets, to see how it reacts. Maybe I'll WILl like it, you never know.

going to hear the null if it is silent...........maybe i need to read this book

i have always hunted with the threshold somewhat loud - so i can hear the nulls over the breaking waves - AND IT WILL ALERT U TO A TARGET IF U GET CLOSE TO IT

maybe wed. i will give this new theory a spin..............MAYBE :)

WED. I WILL LET U KNOW MY TAKE ON THIS SILENT DEAL
