Excellent Find Darrell.....Location is the key to nice finds like that. Now it's up to you to be patient and try diff. approaches to hunting it. Changing of the coils, diff. angles,diff. settings...etc. and you may just walk out of there with some more old coins and maybe buttons and buckles.

Thanks Mattockman,,, I went back today and found an old ax head,,, another lantern bottom and a 1916 d wheat cent,,,I think im the only guy that can go to a 1800's site and pull a wheat penny lol Good luck to you!!

Nice find!! I love finding those large coppers. The soil here in Connecticut is not usually so kind to the old coppers. most of the time they are pretty beat. You can see the features, but they aren't as solid as yours. I found quite a few large cents, Connecticut coppers, and even some early English coppers last year - most aren't as nice as yours. Occasionally you have the "perfect storm" of soil conditions (minerals, acids, type of trees etc) and the coin pops out in great condition.
I've been following you - keep up the good work!!
