First Largie Today 2-22-09 :detecting:

So i decided to leave the loacal park alone today and adventure off into the back woods!!!! I have a spot on private land that has never had a metal detector across it!!! until mine did some sweeping,,, I had to park on the side of the road,, and hike around a mile,, Thorough the creek, up and down hills, plus through lots of brush!!!! Along time ago while Coon hunting i came across an old foundation in the middle of a honey suckle thicket.. I kinda forgot about it, until i was browsing on you tube.. I was watching some videos of some guys in New England hiking through the woods and detecting around old cellars.. They were finding all kinds of neat Relics,, tokens, and one actually pulled a Large Cent,, So all night Saturday i had my mind set on going there Sunday for sure,,, So i packed a pack, gloves, water bottle,,, hot hands,,, and more gloves lol
Today was really windy and cold... I finally got to the foundation,,, My first target was a neat little can lid that said Nyal's Face Cream,, " i will google that one" There was a lot of iron in the ground,, which is natural around an old homestead.. I searched around a bit longer and found a few more interesting items.. one almost looks to be a trigger or something "bottom right corner", part of a horse shoe,, bottom of an old lantern,, and a smashed hair clip!!! After digging all sorts if items that were almost surface,,, i got a nice signal that was deeper... Not deep,, but much deeper than the rest of the items!!!! I dug down about three inches,, put the probe in,, and she rang,, I pin pointed it carefully then stuck the knife to the edge,, and popped out a coin... I wasn't sure what it was at first.. Actually wasn't sure if it was a coin or token.. I picked it up and could easily see the reef then one cent in the middle,,, I knew i had my first Large Cent,,, I cant even explain the excitement i had.,, Still have!!! It's my very first and hopefully not my last... on the way out,, i dipped it in the creek just to see if i could see a date,,, 1848,,,and i was surprised to see how beautiful condition it is in!!!!! Thanks Every one for looking,, and thanks for all the post!!!! Good luck on the next hunt!!!!

Derrell, you suck!! Sixteen feet of snow and your playing in the dirt!! Congrats on a well, somewhat decent find for a well, somewhat non gold finding dirt digger!! Nice find and congrats on a well deserved find!! Such a sweet find!!

You must have pleased the detecting gods, you have been making a killing. Keep it up

Thanks Elton!!!
I'm no pro yet!!!! I just do what every one else has told me,,, Go slow, and listen to the beast!!!! And if your not sure,, DIG IT!!!! I think that is exactly what the ring thing is,,, Part of an old watch... I hope to have some more goodies this week from the same site... It is scheduled for clearing,,, They are taking out all the brush,,, and leaving the foundations!!!! I just hope they don't mess up any of those old coins/relics!!! Thanks again Elton!!!
