first gold

I found my first gold ring yesterday and it was right in my own yard. I have been at this for about a year but haven't searched my own yard thoroughly yet. The ring weighs 8 grams and is inscribed 1906. I don't see any hallmarks. I was using my tesoro silver umax with the discrimination just above foil. The ring was only 4-5" deep.

Yes sometimes the best places are literally in your yard. I have dug a half reale, 53 Franklin, Williams cleaner bullet, data plate from an Edison phonograph and a Chevy emblem that still has a lot of the enamel on it. Thanks for sharing and keep checking your yard, saves on gas and time. HH!

Great yard score, congrats! My first shield nickel and seated quarter were right out my back door as well. JJ

My very first metal detecting target was a 1950 wheaties in my back yard. House was brand new with nothing around it.

Thanks for the comments. Last fall I was hunting at my parents house and thought I found a gold ring. It was a copper ring from a compression fitting. Ha ha.

GREAT JOB I FOUND MY 2 OLDEST COINS IN MY ON YARD.1832 HALF DIME AND A 1889 DIME THE SAME DAY AFTER A BIG STORM.HH

Congrats on the gold ring. Nice find in your own backyard!

Great find & congrats on the ring. I have a couple of yards to dirt fish in - wish you many more great finds.

If it's that old (1906) I figure the hallmarks wore off a long time ago! Super nice ring:thumbup:
You might want to do an acid test to see what K. it is!

I stopped at a new pawn shop in the area to see if they had any metal detectors. Just for the heck of it I asked what they pay for gold. The lady told me they pay 50% of spot because they only get 60% from the smelter. That didn't sound right to me.

A company called ARA pays 98% of melt value. They are one of the companies that those buying gold at pawn shops and '"we bug gold" places sell their gold. Some one Lied to you. You can get more than 50% from folks that are holding gold for when the prices go back Up.

They are very honest and are in Dallas or FT Worth.I cant find my card but have sold lots of stuff to them. HH-Mark

Very nice find. I'm still looking for my first gold anything !
