First Diamond ring with the XT705...TID 4..would u have dug it?

There is nothing to disagree with in OLH's statement....He is just implying what others, many others, might find useful on the screen.I hunt by tone first and TID second, and find the TID# very helpful in my hunts! As for a gimmick...nope,a gimmick is icons of rings, silver dollars and, gold bars!!!...I would hope that after 47 years of detecting you had lots to show,I've been detecting 7 years and have cans, buckets and boxes full of finds....GAL HHS

I'll trust my imperfect ears to ID a target over anything a screen might show.
Then we are in partial agreement anyway, because it's always audio first and foremost. And I don't know an experienced detectorist that does think that it's a perfect science.
Where we disageee is that I believe that it isn't "a gimmick", but rather just an additional bit of information that a person can choose to utilize in their compilation of what the machine provides. I never rely on the screen. For the vast majority of us that's not what it's for.

And FWIW, I do have substantial hearing loss. Loud music, gunfire, and racing engines have completely wiped out certain frequency ranges. Fortunately most of my damage is above the pitch of our machines. Pitches below the Tinnitus I can still hear pretty well, but I do wonder what nuances I might missing if any.

The way that I look at it is that it's there if you want it. Nobody is wrong for incorporating it in their extrapolation, and nobody is wrong for ignoring it..

Yes at the beach that is what you are looking for is foil signals! Most gold rings are small ladies rings that come in between foil and nickel. Huge class rings come in like zinc pennies. If you are at the beach you should be trying to dig every piece of foil, pulltab, pull ring, can slaw, and zinc penny you can, unless for some reason you just want to coinshoot, but why would you go to the beach for that? You could possibly discriminate for more solid signals, less breakup, and symmetry.

One should make it a game. How many total junk targets can I dig, try for 100? After digging several hundred targets you should have one or more gold rings!

Congrats! That is one sweet find!
Foil, small lead, gold-they can all fall into those lower 'don't dig' numbers. If looking for jewelry, I dig MOST solid tones and non-jumpy ID#s above the negative numbers.
