Sunday morning beach finds with the XT705,5x10 HF DD coil....Got two rings White Gold/diamond and a silver(got a big 20g class Friday night, posted on beach&water),Earring and charm,key,@6 dollars in clad, and the second pair of Ray-Bans in two weeks...both eye finds, the other pair were ladies "Jackie Ohh's",retail value $116.00..sold em for $50.00!!!....This is the first diamond ring(nice diamond!!) I found with the 705,It was a solid TID 4...just like those little pieces of foil or rolled up gum wrappers....I dig them all at the beach...end result is why!!! GL All

Excellent Bob! :clapping: Those are some sweet finds!

When I beach hunt, I dig everything that is repeatable that doesn't sound big and ugly. Most of the gold that I've dug has ID'd @ 6, but I've got a big ring that was a 40, and others in between. So yeah, I'd have dug it.
I fill my trash pouch with pulltab tails every time out it seems. They usually ring in @ 8, but that's close enough to where gold can be that I won't pass on 'em.

First off, nice finds! Special congrats on the beautiful ring. Secondly, yes, I would have dug it as well. For those who may not have read the posts I wrote for Minelab's Treasure Talk blog, here is an excerpt from one of them......

If you are passing over targets represented by the X-TERRA 70 and the 705 with a numeric TID of +2, +4 and +6, you risk missing rose gold rings, platinum rings, white gold rings and some foreign coins.

If you are passing over targets represented with a TID of +6, +8 and +10, you risk missing more white gold rings, more platinum rings, thin yellow gold rings, lead and brass shells and the US nickel 3-cent piece.

If you set your detector to reject TID numbers +14 and +16, you will risk missing very thin silver coins, the $1.00 US Gold coin, thin yellow gold rings, Shield nickels, Liberty V nickels, 40% silver War nickels, many wedding bands, 10kt class rings, tokens and more foreign coins.

If you set your notches to reject +16, +18 and +20, you will risk missing gold rings, tokens, various gold jewelry, 14kt rings, brass, the US $2.50 Gold piece, Indian Head cents, Flying Eagle cents, more foreign coins and even large 10kt class rings.

If you rejected notch segments +20, +22, +24 and +26, you risk missing more Indian Head pennies, the US silver 3-cent piece, the US $5 Gold piece, large gold rings, small silver pieces, gold jewelry and medallions, and still more old tokens.

WTG on the nice gold an diamond ring.

I've never found a diamond that big before and I hope to someday.

If I was beach or farm field hunting then Yes I would dig that number but if I was turf hunting then No, most times I would not dig anything below a #9 on the x505.

The area that you are hunting...... in my case the beach,is like most agree a dig it all hunting ground.I would not be as eager to dig all those low # TIDs in a park or school ground!! Thanks

Great find! I must admit I would not have found it, TID 4 is X'd out on my setup. As I read Digger's description, sounds like I'm missing quite a few.I've found my share of rings, usually in the 40's for silver and high 40's for the gold ones.

I recently enabled TID 6 after reading the forum, so far it has only yielded foil.

Nice finds! I would have missed the ring.

As much as I like finding rings every now and then I kind of feel like I'll take my chances on what I don't dig on those lower TID's. I'm more happy spending time looking for coins unless I'm purposely looking for a lost ring.

When beach hunting with my 705, I dig everything above 0 so I would have dug that signal.

What type of sand ( dry or wet ?). Thinking of getting a HF coil....debating between the 5x10 or the 6 inch. The 6 inch is water proof, but I would be using it for dry sand hunting at the beach, so the 5x10 would give me better coverage. Then again the 6 inch may be better for park jewelry hunting.

Decisions decisions !

I find a use for both HF coils....but prefer the 5x10.....I only hunt the dry sand on the beaches with the XT.

On a beach I dig everything. Have less than 50 hrs ('cause of the distance to) on the beach. But all of my costume jewelry, earring backs and my 1 small 10kt gold ring were all 8 or less on the TID.
Now in dirt/tot lots- I have found some costume jewelry between 6-12 TID but it gets to be pretty time consuming with all of the foil. When that happens-I get selective. If it sounds a little different I'll dig.

Thats how I found some gold w my analog--(no tones) but a little different sound or a little +/- on the VID and I'd dig. Still do.

At a beach I probably would have dug it but for me I would only dig that TID at a beach. Just me.

As the line goes in the Wizard of Oz, "don't pay attention to that man behind the curtain", I don't pay attention to all those numbers spitting from my 705. I have no idea what they mean and don't care. The only thing the screen is good for is battery check and a glance at the depth indicator, but I usually can tell by the audio if its deep or on the surface. I dig what my ears tell me. My wifes hands and jewelry box and the 2 coffee cans of jewelry she doesnt want attest to that.

I don't think that I'd go so far as to say that. It may be true to a greater extent for a beach or relic hunter. For others it shouldn't be a guiding light, but it can be a valuable additional tool for target verification, and if you have a hearing impairment it may be a necessity to avoid a discouraging hobby experience.

Nice work , congrats on some great finds and a super day out
I have dug thin band gold rings at 2, 4 & 6 and I've heard of gold rings at -2 on the Xterra705 at the beach so its always wise not to discriminate ;)
You've got the Rayban shades and the bling ....very cool

I do disagree longhair. I think target ID's are an imperfect science in their current state and are a gimick to sell machines. To each there own. I may have a hearing impedepent but I've been listening to metal detector language for 47 years and for the moment it is still the most accurate indicator as to what the detector is 'seeing'. I'll trust my imperfect ears to ID a target over anything a screen might show.
