First detector on a 250 budget

Here are my preferences based on my usage of the machines....(1) Teknetics Delta...hard to beat this machine! (2) Fisher F2...awesome.... fast recovery and lightweight. (3) Whites Coinmaster (new)...the only reason it's third is because I've only had it 2 weeks, still learning it. (4) Tesoro Compadre...if not having a meter is not an issue, move this one up to #2.

I don't really care for the Ace 250. The technology is from the 80's. Now before I'm lynched, I'm not saying it's a bad detector, I just prefer the newer technology.

This is just my two corroded zinc cents worth....

With the 3 that you listed. Side by side comparison of features, reviews and warranty. I list them (1)Legacy 3300, (2) Ace 250, (3) Coinmaster. As far as fragile, all the units listed from reading the customer reviews has not had an fragile issue. Of course a detector will not malfunction if taken care of. Like others, if you can put the detector in your hands and try it that would be the best way to see what you like. Sorta like test driving a car or a boat, you wouldn't buy one with trying it. Good luck with what you decide.

Thanks for the tips friends there are a lot of detectors to choose from.I think I am going to meet in the middle and go with the 150 compadre just to get started. The price allows to get my feet wet and see what I feel I will need in a next detector while still having a machine with some reputation. Also nieces and nephews can have a detector with a lifetime warranty and easy to use when I bump up.I find it pretty neat how by just doing research and getting going in this hobby every patch of grass now transforms into a potential treasure chest.Very cool! Thanks again everybody.

I just went through a similar exercise, looking at the Whites Coinmaster, the ACE250, and BH Legacy 3300. I decided to buy the 3300, which at $249 is the most expensive of the three, because I plan to use it at a local beach. The 3300 has a manual ground balance control that should be of great benefit near salt water.

I received the unit yesterday. As soon as the snow melts I'll give it a try and see how well it works.:clapping:

Hey Shambler,
The F4 is a good little machine from what I hear.
My only problem with the Ace 250 is it could use some more coils.
I'd like to see some concentric coils but I don't think Garrett
is interested in moving on this. Otherwise, I've had good luck with
the Ace even though its not my main detector. I'm a Whites person
myself.

I think you will like the 3300. I have the Titan 2000xd which is a BH 2200 and is the next model down from what you bought. Although it goes about only half the depth of my Safari, I find that it's pin point accuracy with it's concentric coil, and it's light weight makes is simple and fast to find shallow targets. So easy in fact, that in many cases I find myself getting more coins using the BH then I do with the Minelab!

Enjoy!

Check out the Garrett Forum. Someone recently posted some great
finds with the Ace 250. See what other people are finding with this little machine.
I'd get the Ace AND if yoou vcan afford that BH 3300 get it too. $95 is a
good price. New here in Indiana the BH 3300 sells at Dicks Sporting Goods for $299.
