First Day out with Ace 250

Tim-PY

New member
Hello, today was my first day out with the Ace 250. I'll add a pic at bottom. The Ace was going off in every mode with sound. After watching the DVD a few times my understanding was that in Coin mode it wouldn't sound on a bottle cap but if was over one would show cursor in that area. Is the Ace supposed to remain quiet when the cursor shows above where you have no bars (squares)? Also I had several hits showing $1.00 but dug with nothing there, usually indicated in the 8+ range. Dug 12", swung again and still said $1.00 8+, pinpointed again, same thing. Any idea what I was doing wrong? I was detecting in upstate NY western side finger lakes area. This happened at different locations. I kept the sensitivity at factory settings only changing modes. The machine seemed to be working well with the trash, it was pulling pull tabs quite deep, sometimes only half a tab! Appreciate any insight, TimYeah, I only found two cents! Hey, first time out and the crabs were restless!

Probably have the SENS too high. When there is a lot of trashy stuff around, as it seems there was, the Ace will get twictchy with all the targets it is trying to process. This is exacerbated by running the SENS too high.
Try turning that down first.

Thanks, will try next time out to lower it. Appreciate the reply. It was at factory settings with the top two bars not "lit". The areas were trashy!

Yep, the Ace has 8 SENS bars and 6 may be too high in the presence of trash. I usually run about 4-5 in tot lots and swing pretty fast - the Ace will get a bit more depth at faster swing speeds and "grab" targets well due to the fast response time. You definitely do not need to creep the coil.
So back the SENS down a little and keep that coil moving briskly, while maintaing good swing discipline. Your goal should be to develop a smooth process.
Also, try running in ALL METAL for a while. If you are being hounded by iron and it's effects youll know it pretty quick! THis alone can be an excellent tool to determine what is going on beneath that coil.
And look on the bright side - your Ace works and detects metal. Lets hope that is not all there is to find.

Whats the story on the crab legs?

Hi dahut, Well believe it or not I found these near my first dig today. What I found strange is that I am hundreds of miles away from any salt water and never seen these before, been here since 89. At first I thought a Seagull may have plucked them from someones trash but then along the lake there were many more! Never new there are fresh water crabs, but I also never new there are jet black squirrels either until I moved here! Long story short, I blamed the crab for gouging my penny! I actually hit the penny with my digger, glad it wasn't rare, Tim

Yep, all the different modes, or notches, just cut the audio for that
particular notch. But the machine is always seeing all metal, all the
time. So it's not unusual to see stuff going off on the notched out
tabs.
As far as the ID, it's never a sure thing. A piece of iron will get
"hotter" as it rusts, as rust is very conductive.
So you might have cases of steel bottle caps, or nails that will
show low iron hits when clean and fresh.
But after they sit for a few years, they get real rusty and actually
get more conductive.
So it's quite possible to be fooled by say a rusty nail. They will
often read real hot on the silver scale, but often bounce down
around iron too.
This is one way to tell if it's trash or iron, vs a coin. A coin will
always ID about the same every time. But trash that is rusty will
bounce all over the scale because it's hitting on both the rust,
and the low conductivity iron.
So I wouldn't be surprised if your deep target you couldn't find
was maybe a large piece of rusty iron that is pretty deep.
Never know till you find it...
I've had a few targets I never found, so don't feel like the lone
ranger in that dept... And it would hit ID mode, and pinpoint
every time. But... I never did find whatever it was.. That was
in the backyard..

Never operate at factory settings. Operate with the settings that work best in your area. Keep that sensitivity at four bars.

Bill

Thanks everyone for the advice, will keep it at four bars sensitivity and practice, and while I'm at it, I also practice some more! Thanks, Tim

Good eatin too.

These are in NC. and they aren't albino.

Neat photo! Never heard of white squirrels either. What is really strange about some of the black squirrels around here, some have blond ears and/or tails! We also have a herd of white deer that are near the old Sampson military base by Ovid, NY. They are truly white deer also, not albino. Cool pic's:thumbup:

Funny you should ask! It has been asked before about radiation which does cause genetic interference. I have personally also seen deer with a patched looking coat of different colors. Also have seen antlers with one long point on one side and several points on the other. Strange, did I mention this base is closed???

Deer with "a patched looking coat of different colors" are sometimes referred to as "pie-bald". Antlers with tines growing in different directions are called "non-tipical".:)

Mike.
