It has been a long time since a have got to go relic hunting. I haven’t been on here in a while. I have been super busy with work and other things. I had a vacation day I had to take so I took it to go detecting. Hunted this spot for a little over a hour and it’s going to be a good one. I detected a lot before I found this spot. I walked for over two miles to get here. That is why only I only detected this spot for a short time. I found a Prussian 69 caliper and several round balls and a Minnie and a enfield. Also found a button with R. Jackson and Ind on it. I need help with if on it and the long lead piece. Also found a bunch of melted lead which is always a good sign. I also need a I’d on the bullet that has been modified with a square hole

Congrats! Ya did great & probably many more great hunts are coming! Merry Christmas to you, Liz & the family! Ma

7centsworth, Great Relic hunt. The bullet you found with the square hole was used as a nipple protector on a musket. The soldier placed the bullet atop of the rifles nipple and sent the hammer home. The hammer made the impression on the soft lead of the bullet. The bullet then could be placed on the nipple and used as a protector to keep dirt and water out of the nipple and preventing a problem with the muskets firing. An ingenious idea from the soldiers in the field. This was a great save as all the other finds were. Nice saves of History. Well Done.
