Finally got a Deleon

It was an epic struggle (long story), but I finally scored an absolutely mint Deleon from Richard at Backwoods detectors. There are no signs of any use whatsoever on this machine.

Initial air tests are very impressive. I'm not seeing any difference in depth from my Vaquero (non-super tuned). Both in AM and disc at tabs, the depth is pretty much identical. I will investigate this further as I didn't expect this. I only tested indoors and with a few coins, but that's my initial impression.

Can't wait for some nicer weather so I can test the Deleon with real targets. Could the Deleon be Tesoro's "sleeper"?

I almost bought one over my Vaquero, I read they had similar depth, but I think the Ground balance and supertuning make the V a bit better on depth, still the de Leon is a very nice machine im sure. Cant wait to see and hear about your finds!

I have a question for you (unrelated to the Deleon).

How did you create your signature with the Tesoro logo?

I traded with Richard for one 3 - 4 years ago. I was also impressed with the depth and have made many good finds with it. It doesn't separate copper pennies and dimes on the display like the Cortez, but with a coin indication I always dig anyway. You may find that it runs a little smoother with the sensivity set in the 7 - 9 range and if you hit a target that jumps all over the place, but still mostly indicates coins, be sure to dig as this often is a coin spill. The ID on mine is pretty accurate for coins as well. Only down side that I can see is that it's a preset ground balance rather than manual or auto trac. Most of the coin shooting I do is in mild soil so the ground balance isn't an issue.

There's something under the hood that's making the Deleon and Cortes go deep. I'm astounded how deep they go. Deeper than my other

type tesoro in the sig and put : before and after and it will show as logo same with garrett minelab etc

[pre] *tesoro*[/pre] replace * with :

TID guy amongst the Tesoro ranks.. becareful guys.:rofl::rofl:

No worries. I got this primarily for my daughter to use as I didn't expect it to be so deep. I figured it would be a bit deeper than my Compadre(which she uses) but my Vaquero would remain my main machine. I'm a little stunned at the depth so I may have to re-evaluate who uses what come spring. The audio is awesome from what I can tell so far, so it should still remain mainly an audio machine.

I've had several times that the display and audio tempted me to move on, but retrieved the target anyway and ended up with a goodie. My thinking is the TID combined with the audio/discrimination should all be used in deciding to dig.

Some of those machines were fun, and some were real stinkers. In the interest of not starting anything ugly, I will leave that to the imagination. :bouncy:

I had a mint Cortes, and while deep....had the jumpiest tid out of any detector I have ever used. It was truly worthless. They say that's because you can't ground balance it in disc mode but I don't know if that's the reason or not. I've used a lot of machines with a fixed ground balance and they were all accurate even though I couldn't adjust the ground balance. I really don't understand why they would sell a detector that they freely admit won't work in some areas. Makes me mad too because I love Tesoro's and wanted to love the Cortes.

I've also got a Cortes and haven't had the problem you mention except in really trash areas.

It locked on with coins on the surface or just slightly under. I can't count how many 4 way solid 95's were pulltabs. Like I said, I love Tesoro but that Cortes wasn't worth a darn.
