Finally found my first Half Dime!

Well-known member
When I finally sifted it out of the dirt, I thought maybe it was a toy dime. But then I saw the hole in it and thought maybe it's a silver dangle or coin. Couldn't see any details in the field. It was also slightly bent and stained. That's the first thing I cleaned when I got home and could immediately see a seated figure and 1837 date! My oldest US silver coin found. Laid it on a piece of wood and whacked it with a rubber mallet to flatten it back out. The other finds were found at various other sites lately. The medal is an 1883 Womans Relief Corps. The St Christopher is huge and heavy Hayward Sterling. 1892 Dime, 1899 Quarter, 1924D Dime, 1889 IH, and a Good Luck coin. Lots of other interesting stuff I'll have to post later. Thanks for looking and stay warm.

Way to go on all those old finds. Sounds like you've got a honey hole to me.
I'm still looking for my first seated coin maybe this year will be the year?

Congrats on your first half dime! The other finds are good-ens as well!

Half dime is awesome. I have never found one. Congrats. Your other finds are really neat too. 😀

This is what I found at the site with the Half Dime. Definitely need to go back. The 2 cartridges are from 1905 and 1908. The big button is a post-1902 Great Seal. The small flat button is a plain Rich Colour. An ape cuff link that had stones for eyes and mouth. A Model T key. The ornate piece is a buckle fragment. The big square piece on top is an unusual padlock with no makers mark. The blob may be melted silver: shiny, not soft like lead, not light like aluminum.

Thats a great find you picked up and I myself never found a seated half dime, but many seated dime over the year. I did get 2 Canadian fish scales that are the same size one year with the 1896 one that look like it was lost when new.
On the coins that are bent I put them between 2 of the 2X4 and hit the top board and they do straighten out just fine.
I need to find a seated half dime and the seated quarter as I dont have one of them either, just seem to tell those I hunt with about places I am thinking on going and they go and find them, just got to remember to keep it a secret so I can get one.

Nice finds it took me a while to find a seated half dime I found capped bust ones before i found a seated thats a early one too
