Field Testing New Machines?

Got any examples of a bad review? That is to say a honest review of a poorly designed detector? They all seem to be "great machines".

Steve Hershbach did review of a recent White's machine that was pretty darn honest. There's a few out there that will tell it like it is, and I appreciate their work. Especially when they save me money. Unfortunately, a lot of fluff artists out there too.

Yep----Steve tells it like he sees it.----He ain't in anybodys hip pocket!

A machine that may perform great for a tester in one area of the country may not perform great in my area of the country due to soil conditions. I mainly depend upon the machines specs to decide whether it may be a performer or not for me. When I first started detecting I got burned by basing my detector purchase solely on detector field test where the field tester absolutely mislead the reader's of how great a machine it was and it really wasn't. Burn me once shame on you burn me twice shame on me comes to mind. Luckily I haven't burned myself yet ( knocking on wood ).

I have field tested over the years and of course you are not going to slam any product, no matter the manufacturer. You can however point out deficiencies and offer recommendations. It's all in how you write and how you word things. The manufacturers appreciate that.

Keep in mind most fields tests are on "new" models so there will always be shortcomings here and there. Just my two cents worth....

don't call us we'll call you :buds:

only one tester I trust and that's me and then that's always open to more testing for the next several years or more :bouncy:

I have a way of sorting through internet reviews toss all the ones that say its crap and toss all the ones that say its the best read the others and do my best to see if it fits what I need. then as per above.

Actions speak louder than words. Show me a video of multiple real world digs, in real time, and show me good targets and junk targets being located and dug. That is my ideal review / field test.

A good example is Dirtfishing's Etrac videos, which have probably sold enough Etracs that Minelab should put him on the payroll.

I have seen a few reviews back in the day when you could tell the guy doing the review either had something against the name brand or maybe just did not click with the unit. Now you see alot of people who say things like "right out of the box....." Sometimes reviews are misleading too.
