Favorite for freshwater...Excal or Tiger Shark?

Dirt Poor

New member
I have used the Tiger for some time now, and it's done very well. Just wondering how the Excal would compare in freshwater. Thanks.

The Excal will go deeper than the Tesoro but the Tesoro will find smaller gold. That has been my experience and I've used both in a local freshwater lake. The Tesoro also finds some things closer to nails than the Excal but both are great detectors and will compliment each other.

Thanks! I have "kicked the idea around" about getting a good used excal, but I don't know if the expense would be justifiable. I also have an HH Pirate, which I've found good stuff with, also.

I got rid of an Excal because it sounded like R2D2 and I had to send it back twice for repairs. Not reliable at least the one I had. I can run my E-Trac just fine. I have 2 TSs. One I wade with and the other is rigged for diving. Also have a Fisher 1280-X. If you spend the $$ for the Excal and you get a good one, and you learn to understand what it's saying, it'll be fine. Wasn't my choice. I have done better with the TSs and it's hard to beat a lifetime warranty. If you just want to push the learning curve and play with something new, that's enough reason to get one. If you think it's going to outhunt the TS in freshwater I think that would be a hard sell. jim

If you dive I would also look at a CZ-20 or 21. In fresh water they are also tops.
