I knew of a hotel, bar, dance platform, and clam bakes that once existed deep in the woods of this county park. It took me loads of research to find out more information about all of this. The hotel and the other structures were built in 1875 and was in business until 1940. Clam bakes every Sunday during nice weather. Usually 100 to 300 people would show up. One special Sunday, 2000 people showed up. I couldn't detect this area until I got a working GPS unit. It was over a quarter mile trail through the woods to get to this place. Now I'm up there in age so I detected this area for about 16 days but less than an hour and a half each day. When I was younger, I could go 4 or 5 hours at a time. A younger person could have found all these treasures in just a few days.
The real point is that it really really pays to do lots of historic research.
